As the warmer weather continues, please take care around open water. Rivers, lakes and the sea remain cold, and cold water shock can affect anyone.

If you’re near water:
• Never go in alone
• Avoid alcohol
• Keep children within arm’s reach
• Choose lifeguarded beaches where possible

In trouble? Float to Live - lean back, keep your airway clear and try to relax. RNLI

See someone struggling? Call 999 and ask for Fire & Rescue or Coastguard.

🚒 Our crews were put through their paces as they faced a challenging scenario at TWFRS’ training centre.

Firefighters tackled a simulated multi-vehicle road traffic collision involving a Metro train, using a wide range of skills, specialist equipment, and teamwork to safely free casualties.

Exercises like this are vital in ensuring our crews are prepared to respond swiftly and effectively when it matters most.

Behind every emergency response is so much more than what you see.

At Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, our people work around the clock - not just to respond, but to prevent, protect and support our communities every day.

Guided by our vision to create the safest community, we continue to listen, learn and evolve - so we’re ready for the risks of today and the challenges of tomorrow.

Because together, we don’t just protect… we strengthen. 🚒

As the warmer weather arrives, many of us will head out to enjoy the sun at great spots across Tyne and Wear – but don’t let it end like this.

This fire in Ousbrough Wood in Gateshead was caused by a BBQ that wasn’t disposed of safely.

☀️ Warm weather + dry ground = high wildfire risk
🔥 Avoid BBQs and campfires
🚭 Stub ci******es out fully
🗑️ Take litter home
🚗 Park responsibly – hot exhausts can ignite dry grass

It only takes a spark. Think twice before lighting up outdoors.

Stay Safe Around Water This Bank Holiday

With the warm weather here, more people are heading to rivers, lakes and beaches - but open water can be deadly. Calm surfaces hide cold-water shock, strong currents, and unseen hazards. ⚠️

💦 Protect yourself and your family
• Avoid alcohol near water
• Supervise children at all times
• Never jump into unknown water
• Choose lifeguarded beaches
• Learn how to ‘Float to Live’
• In an emergency, call 999 (ask for Fire & Rescue or Coastguard)

Have the conversation - it could save a life.
