๐ŸŒ๐Ÿš’ International Collaboration in Action ๐Ÿš’๐ŸŒ

Earlier this month, we were delighted to welcome eight firefighters from the Cayman Islands for a valuable exchange of skills and knowledge.

During their first week, they visited a range of specialist stations across Tyne and Wear, learning about our capabilities in Rope Rescue, Mass Decontamination, Foam, Incident Command, Boat and Swift Water Rescue, Aerial Ladder Platforms, High Volume Pumps, and Fire Control.

Our crews delivered demonstrations, shared insight, and compare how we each respond to incidents - highlighting both similarities and differences in our roles.

In week two, our Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) instructors led a dedicated familiarisation programme. This was incredibly useful for the firefighters as the Cayman Islands is frequently affected by tropical storms and hurricanes, and strengthening expertise in USAR is a vital part of their training.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for supporting this important knowledge-sharing opportunity ๐Ÿ‘

Jill is Brill.

Today (Friday 12th June) we were proud to open our doors and welcome local football legend Jill Scott MBE to Farringdon Community Fire Station in Sunderland.

Jill was in the region during the final leg of her enduring โ€˜Coming Home Challengeโ€™, which is raising money for 2026.

The gruelling journey of 388-miles has seen the former Queen of the Jungle and England footballing star run and cycle from Wembley Stadium through to the finish line at the Stadium of Light.

Crews, TWFRS colleagues, volunteers, and attendees from the The King's Trust TEAM programme gave Jill and her team a massive Northeast welcome as they enjoyed a pitstop at Farringdon before making their way onto Sunderlandโ€™s Premiership home ground.

Our Future is in Safe Hands ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿš’

Can we get a like for Harrison, aged 3, of Slatyford, Newcastle. ๐Ÿ‘

Harrison is a TWFRS super fan and wants to be a firefighter when heโ€™s older. We canโ€™t wait to welcome him into our firefighter family. He spotted one of our crews from West Denton Community Fire Station out in the local community attending an incident and stopped them to ask for a few helpful tips. ๐Ÿš’

The next step for Harrison will be to join one of our Fire Cadet programmes that are held weekly at Gateshead, Marley Park, South Shields, Tynemouth and West Denton Community Fire Stations. They are aimed at young people aged between 11-17.

A link to information about the Fire Cadets can be found in the comments section below ๐Ÿ‘‡

Harrison we wish you luck for your future career! ๐Ÿงก

A big thank you to Jonathan Klajn from the Jewish Community Council of Gateshead for delivering a fantastic Cultural Awareness session at our HQ.

Our teams gained valuable insight into religious, cultural and family life in Orthodox Jewish communities.

Sessions such as these help build stronger relationships, improve communication, and keep everyone in Tyne and Wear safer.
