Our house rules

What we’ll do...
We’ll confirm its us - If you see a Sunderland Care and Support account online, you can check it’s us. We’ll list our social media accounts on our website here www.sunderlandcareandsupport.co.uk

We’ll listen - We’ll read all messages and respond to them where it’s necessary or appropriate, providing help and support, or by signposting you to key information on ou

r website. If there is a problem, we’ll look to flag it up with the most relevant part of the organisation. We’ll be human and polite - We’ll treat each message with the politeness you’d expect if you were dealing with us face-to-face, by email or on the telephone. What we’d like you to do in return...
We’d like you to be polite - We know that sometimes things don’t go to plan, and you’ll want to flag things up with us. But do remember, we’re human and the person monitoring the social media account is only trying to help. So are other people who use social media. We’d like you to ‘not’ be anti-social - We won’t tolerate online - just as we don’t offline - swearing, threats or abuse or any posts or comments that are defamatory or slanderous against an individual or those that will cause offence. We won’t deal with your query on social media. We’ll direct you to other channels instead. We’d like you to ‘not’ be personal - If you have a complaint to make, we’ll look into it. We’ll point you towards our complaints page here www.sunderlandcareandsupport.co.uk/making-a-complaint

We’d like you to ‘not’ spam or advertise - Our social media channels aren’t the place for followers to advertise. Making the same points over and over - otherwise known as spamming - isn’t for our social media. You’ll be better off contacting us another way so we can look into the issue for you. We’d like you to ‘not’ over-share - If you’ve got an issue, we’ll happily look into it. But be careful not to post private information about yourself or others. Of course, most of the time social media works fine. On the rare occasion where you don’t stick to the house rules, our profanity filters will automatically hide offensive posts or comments, and we reserve the right to delete offending content and block you from contacting us through that route. We also reserve the right to contact the police should we feel the offensive content warrants it.

Every year on the 14th of June, organisations across the world come together to mark 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘆, a global campaign led by the World Health Organization to raise awareness of the ongoing need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank voluntary, unpaid donors for their life saving contributions.

💙 Carers Week 2026 💙

This week, we’re proud to recognise and celebrate Carers Week, a national campaign that shines a light on the incredible contribution of unpaid carers across our communities.

Every day, thousands of people provide vital support to loved ones, helping them to live independently and stay connected to the things that matter most. Their commitment, compassion and resilience make a real difference.

At Sunderland Care and Support, we also want to take this opportunity to recognise our own support workers and care colleagues.

Our teams work alongside families and carers every day providing professional care, building trusted relationships, and supporting people to live fulfilling, independent lives. Their role is essential in strengthening the network of care around each individual.

👏 To all carers - both unpaid and within our workforce - thank you.

Your impact cannot be overstated, and we are proud to stand alongside you.

𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸
Brunswick Assessment Service supports customers with mental health needs to take positive steps towards greater independence, confidence, and stability.

Brunswick offers a structured pathway for customers who need time and the right support to move forward. Following referral and assessment, customers join a safe and welcoming environment where the focus is on settling in, building trust, and beginning their approach at a pace that works for them.

From here, support is centred around understanding each customer as an individual, their strengths, needs, and aspirations, while helping them to develop the practical skills and confidence needed for everyday life.

As customers progress, they are supported through a phased approach which encourages increasing independence and prepares them for what comes next. Throughout this, staff work closely with customers and partner agencies to plan realistic and sustainable move-on options.

The overall aim is to provide the right support at the right time, enabling customers to move on with confidence into environments that best meet their long-term needs.

We will be carrying out essential planned maintenance on our telecare system from 15 May to 19 May to help ensure the service continues to operate reliably.

We do not expect any interruption to the service. Please continue to use your telecare equipment as normal. During this period, calls may take a little longer to answer, but you will still receive a response.

If you experience any issues and need urgent help, please contact the emergency services.

Thank you for your patience while this important work is completed.

Some of our colleagues are currently taking part in a British Sign Language (BSL) course, developing new skills that support inclusive and person centred communication across our services.

Delivered by an experienced deaf tutor, the course has already helped participants better understand how eye contact, facial expression and focus are central to effective communication, not just hand movements.

At 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, we are committed to ensuring that every customer’s needs are understood and met. Training like this supports our ongoing work to create inclusive services and to communicate in ways that respect and respond to individual needs.

A brilliant example of learning in action and good luck to everyone as they head towards their exam!

We believe voting at elections should be accessible to everyone. Having a disability does not mean you aren't eligible to vote.

There's lots of helpful information about eligibility and registering to vote available on the Sunderland City Council website: https://www.sunderland.gov.uk/article/27190/Voting-if-you-have-a-disabilit

This week, Sunderland Care and Support proudly supports National Deaf Awareness Week, an opportunity to raise awareness, challenge barriers and promote inclusive communication.

Deafness is not just about hearing loss, it’s about communication, understanding and ensuring everyone has equal access to information and support. Small actions can make a big difference, such as maintaining eye contact, using clear facial expressions, being patient, and respecting individual communication preferences.

At SCAS, we are committed to ensuring that all customers’ needs are understood and met. By continuing to build awareness and improve our communication skills, we strengthen person‑centred care and help create services where everyone feels included, respected and heard.

Let’s use this week to learn, reflect and continue working together to promote inclusion across all our services.
