🏖 Oh the joy!

👍 When you finally got to the end of another difficult day, and managed to save up the respite nights to book the one week a year when you trust Sunderland Care and Support Ltd or Together for Children to look after and care for your complex needs child, so that you can separate yourself from the care role, for a few days.

‼️ Overnight short break respite care is crucial to the families of special needs children across the UK.

Give us a Break will continue to campaign, lobby and sustain pressure in our City. For our children and those to come.

👍 This year I'm taking on the role of appeal organiser for our district.

‼️Tonight in the council chambers, Give us a Break families and supporters spoke up. Planning permission was granted unanimously for Red Gables, to ensure sustainable short break respite provision for the disabled children of our City.

👏 I'm beyond proud.

🫶 We'd like to ensure objectors, that we respect your concerns and hope to alleviate them.

🙊 From all the children who cannot speak, we thank the Council Members who understood their represention.

😱 Wow! Just when you think you can't be any more offended about attitudes towards children!

‼️Hetton Town Council appears to be rife with far right extremists.

⬇️ As if Sam Woods-Brass wasn't offensive enough, we now see this in the public domain.

😡 Hetton Town Cllr Richard Elvin shared this post a day ago, featuring an image of a child and a transphobic remark.

😡 His partner Kay Rowham, also a Hetton Town Cllr objected to the Red Gables planning submission by implying that our children are 'abnormal': stating that "5 children don't require an army of care staff" and that "the implication that the facility would operate as a normal family home is fantasy".

🤷‍♀️ The ignorance of Ms Rowham's statement astounds me, and it is her words that are the fantasy.

✅️ She's right on one thing. "5 children don't require an army of care staff". Let's assume she means 'normal children' by that, and let me enlighten her by stating that ours don't either.

✅️ All our kids live at home with their m**s and dads. They breathe, sleep, eat, go to school, have doctor and dentist appointments, play sports, go swimming and enjoy music and dancing like any other kid if they can.

💁‍♀️They just need extra help because of their additional needs. That extra help and vigilance is exhausting, which is why the families NEED OVERNIGHT RESPITE!

😢 I'm sad that I called these people friends. These views are abhorrent to me and it's despicable that individuals who think this way are in public office.

AGAIN - It's fine to raise a valid objection, it's not ok to make it up! I credited them with more intelligence. Pity.
