A few photos of the Community Fields where there’s been a bit more tidying up done yesterday/today around the New Road and Spitfire entrances, just in time for Open Gardens next week.

There are some ‘before’ and ‘after’ views, a couple of which show a ‘few’ whips we need to replace as unfortunately they haven’t survived.

Planning application for Pershore Road

Please note that EPC has been advised that the planning application for 25 houses adjacent to the caravan site on Pershore Road in Eckington has been withdrawn by the applicant following advice from the planning officer at Wychavon.

She advised the applicant that the proposed site failed to address a number of issues that would be likely to result in a refusal of the application.

One of those issues of course, is that the proposed site is not in our neighbourhood plan and also outside our development boundary.

BBC Countryfile

Just a quick reminder that Eckington Community Fields are likely to be featured on this evening‘s Countryfile programme which concentrates on the Vale of Evesham - BBC 1 at 6pm.

Unfortunately, they filmed the week before our volunteers cleared it up… unfortunate timing, but you can’t have everything🤣

Parish Lengthsman

The Parish Council has recently been made aware that some residents are approaching our Parish Lengthsman (Steve) directly regarding matters that fall outside his remit.

We would kindly ask that this does not continue, as it can place him in a difficult position.

By way of reminder, the Parish Lengthsman Scheme is funded by Worcestershire County Council and is intended to cover minor highway maintenance tasks that help improve the local environment.
These generally include drainage work, vegetation clearance, and small-scale repairs.

His scope of work specifically includes:

Drainage:
- Clearing gully grates, blocked gullies, and verge grips
- Maintaining outfalls, headwalls, and drainage channels
- Advising landowners when roadside ditches require attention

Vegetation Clearance:
- Trimming vegetation that obstructs road signs or affects visibility at junctions
- Clearing overgrown footways back to their original width
- Removing basal tree growth, cutting noxious w**ds, and trimming hedges encroaching onto footpaths

Signs and Street Furniture:
- Cleaning, straightening, and repositioning non-illuminated traffic signs
- Rotating and charging Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS)
- Cleaning street nameplates and bus shelters

General Maintenance:
- Supporting winter safety through hand-gritting/salting and snow clearance

Restrictions:
For safety reasons, Lengthsmen are only permitted to work in areas with a 30 mph speed limit.

If you notice an issue that falls within this scope, please report it to our Parish Clerk at:
[email protected]

Steve is only funded for 14 hours per month to cover the whole of Eckington, so it is important that his time is prioritised effectively.
He provides a valued service to the parish, and your understanding and cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Eckington Community Fields Tidy up.

Thankfully, we were blessed with beautiful weather this morning so we were able to get on and do most of the jobs we wanted to get done.

- The New Road entrance now looks great (Thank you Graham, Anne, Jack, Clare and Steve)
- Richie’s excellent Strimming has really sorted those stingers at the end of the Cemetery…hope you didn’t get stung too many times Richie🙏
- 2 of the beds around the Memorial garden now w**d free thanks to Bob, Vicky, Viv, Karen, Clare and Steve👏…thanks Bob for dealing with all the rubbish bags
- All 4 raised beds dug, composted, and expertly planted thanks to Robert, Tim, Cilla, Alistair and Karen
- Cemetery hedge trimmed perfectly by Anne and Tim
- The Car Park entrance from Spitfire now looks fab…Jack, Graham and Anne did a great job
- A few new Whips planted too by the ‘planting team’…no doubt they’ll look good when we’re all dead and buried…we’ll be able to see them from the Cemetery!! 😉
- Thanks to Nik for Strimming and transporting Compost ; and Mike for sweeping up all our messes!

A great team effort👏👏👏.

So a BIG thank you to all those that helped this morning.

You may also have noticed, that we’ve had some cycle racks installed at the new road entrance… Thank you to Steve, our village Lengthsman, for doing this, and for Strimming all the w**ds in that area.
