Caroline Lambert, who runs stained glass classes at Kingshill House (a vibrant community arts and wellbeing centre) in Dursley is organising a community memory session.

Date & Time: Sunday, 25 October (Daylight Saving Day), 14:00 – 16:00.

Purpose: To gather local memories, old photographs, and historical accounts of Kingshill House to assemble a "big jigsaw puzzle" of its history.

Activities: A memory board for written contributions, audio recordings, and a display of the plaque honouring the Lister family from when they passed the house over to the council.

We understand tea and cake will be provided..

🌹 Welcome to the council, Cllr John Bloxsom!

Cllr Bob Hughes was delighted to welcome John to Stroud District Council this morning after his brilliant win in last night's Rodborough by-election. 🎉

John won with 697 votes, a majority of 227, and Labour's share of the vote rose by more than 13 points to 47%. 📈

A huge thank you to everyone in Rodborough who came out to vote, and to the volunteers who knocked on doors, delivered leaflets and talked to residents in all weathers. And a fitting tribute to the legacy of Cllr Katy Hoffman.👏

John is ready to get to work as a strong, focused voice for Rodborough. 💪

Big changes coming for housing, and our high streets

Everyone deserves a safe, secure place to call home, and this morning Angela Rayner set out how Labour will make that real.

Every rough sleeper will be offered a roof by Christmas. More social and council homes will be built, and protected from being sold off.

Empty homes will be brought back into use, and public services will work together to stop families falling into homelessness in the first place.

Leaseholders will get a fairer deal too, with ground rents capped and then scrapped, and cowboy agents brought under proper regulation.

Labour is moving out of Whitehall and back into our communities, with new support to revive high streets and help locals take over their pubs, clubs and cafes.

⚡ Cheaper bills. Good jobs. Power back in public hands. ⚡

Yesterday Labour's Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh set out a clear plan: the move to clean energy isn't just about the environment. It's about rebuilding British industry and bringing down the bills families in Stroud pay every month. As she puts it, "Everyone deserves a stake in our energy future."

Your local Labour council teams (parish, district and county) are backing that plan all the way. Here's what it means:

🏛️ Public ownership that delivers. Thatcher's privatisation put shareholders before the public. Great British Energy is putting control back in public hands, already delivering solar projects for schools and hospitals every two days.

💷 Lower, more stable bills. Sky-high energy costs come from our exposure to volatile global fossil fuel markets, not from climate targets. The answer is homegrown power from wind, solar and nuclear, so a crisis on the other side of the world doesn't land on your kitchen table.

🏡 The Great British Upgrade. Warmer homes and cheaper-to-run workplaces, plus a £1 billion Local Power Plan working with councils and residents to create community-owned electricity. Here in Stroud, with our proud tradition of community energy, we're ready to lead the way.

👷 A fair deal for workers. We won't repeat the mistakes that hollowed out our mining and industrial communities. Energy workers will be at the heart of the new economy, with over a million jobs already supported in the net-zero sector.
