It’s such a different world for children today with the constant draw of technology.

Whilst tech undoubtedly has its benefits, too much screen time can negatively impact children mentally, physically and socially — with effects that can last into later life.

I’m all for helping children find a healthier balance and getting them active, especially outdoors. Whether it’s swimming, climbing trees, riding bikes or simply playing outside, these experiences are so important for wellbeing, resilience and connection. 💙🏊💙

Let’s give children every opportunity to move, explore and just be children. 🌳🚴‍♀️☀️

💙💦 Meet the Campaign Group💦💙

Back in March, we came together as local residents with one shared goal: to save our much-loved Stroud outdoor pool.

Since then, the 15(pictured 9 of us as it’s a challenge for all of us to get together in person due to other commitments !)

We have worked tirelessly alongside our wider community to protect this special place for current and future generations.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing why each of us joined the campaign. We all have our own reasons, but together we believe the pool is far more than somewhere to swim – it’s a place of health, wellbeing, community and memories spanning generations.💙🏊💙

We’re sooo looking forward to the reopening of the outdoor pool! 💦☀️

After months of uncertainty, campaigning and community spirit, it’s fantastic to see real progress being made. We can’t wait to be back enjoying this much-loved community asset and making more summer memories at the pool. 🏊‍♀️💙

💦 Stroud Lido Update 💦

The projected opening date has now moved to 15 August 2026, with 29 July still possible if works continue smoothly.

The positive news is that progress is being made:
✅ Additional funding approved
✅ Sandblasting and drilling completed on schedule
✅ Supplier orders placed
✅ Filter inspections taking place this week
✅ 13 lifeguard applications received so far

While it’s disappointing the date has slipped, it’s encouraging to see work progressing and momentum building towards reopening our much-loved outdoor pool. 🏊💙

We’ve been sent this beautiful poem celebrating the power of community and the fight to protect Stroud’s much-loved outdoor pool. 💙🌊

It really captures the passion, determination and community spirit that helped turn this around. The outdoor pool means so much to so many people and this whole campaign has shown just how powerful a united community can be.

What an incredible few months it’s been. So many people came together with hope, hard work and determination to help secure the future of this special place for generations to come.

Thank you to everyone who played a part. The community truly proved what can be achieved when people come together behind something they love. 💙🏊💙

There’s been lots going on regarding maintenance this week and it’s so good to see they’re cracking on ahead of that much awaited opening date! ☀️💦

We’ve really missed our much-loved outdoor pool. 💙

Back on 12 March 2026, Stroud District Council shocked the community by announcing plans to indefinitely close the Stroud Lido / outdoor pool.

Fast forward to now… and what a turnaround! 🥳

Councillors have now unanimously backed an extra £276k of repair works which should see Stroud’s treasured lido reopen this August and help secure its future for 2027 and beyond. 🌊🏊

Importantly, councillors listened to the strength of feeling from the community and got on board to ensure health, wellbeing and safe outdoor swimming remain a priority for local people. 💙

This only happened because the community came together:

💙Determination and team work from the SOLS campaign group
💙 Hundreds of emails to councillors
💙 Flash mobs 🦞
💙 Shop window competitions
💙 Huge social media support
💙 Local businesses rallying behind the campaign
💙 Incredible backing from local figures

This is such positive news for Stroud and shows the strength of community spirit when people come together behind something they care deeply about. 💙
While there’s still work ahead, approving the urgent repairs is a huge step towards protecting this historic and much-loved lido for future generations. 🌊
