This June we continue to mark PTSD awareness month. Our thoughts go out to all of our 999 workers who battle with this condition on a daily basis, reliving multiple horrific incidents they have attended.
It is important to recognise if a loved one, friend or colleague is suffering through knowing the symptoms:
- re experiencing through flashbacks or nightmares
- physical symptoms such as sweating or trembling
- avoidance of places or talking about things
- withdrawal from friends, socialising and leisure
- Hyperarousal such as loss temper, being easily startled, being short tempered, not sleeping or difficulty concentrating.
- substance abuse
- self harm
- self destructive behaviour or risk taking
- other diagnosed conditions present such as depression
- misdiagnosing symptoms for other conditions such as chest pain, headache or stomach problems.
