🏆 Citizen of the Year – Peter Fry 🏆

At last week's Street Parish Council Community Awards, the Citizen of the Year Award was presented posthumously to Peter Fry in recognition of his exceptional service to the community of Street.

Peter dedicated countless years to supporting local organisations, including the Street Allotments Association, Street Twinning Association, Friends of Street Library, and both the Street and Glastonbury Repair Cafés. Whether through his practical skills, quiet leadership, or willingness to help wherever needed, he made a lasting difference to the lives of many.

Remembered as kind, thoughtful, and dependable, Peter's legacy lives on through the organisations he strengthened, the friendships he nurtured, and the community he cared for so deeply.

A truly deserving recipient, and a much-missed member of our community.

👏 In memory of Peter Fry.

Young Citizen of the Year – Nico Attwell

Congratulations to Nico Attwell, winner of the Young Citizen of the Year Award at last week's Street Parish Council Community Awards.

As an Emergency Medical Dispatcher with the South Western Ambulance Service, Nico dedicates his professional life to helping others. He was recognised not only for his work supporting people in times of crisis, but also for his remarkable fundraising efforts in memory of three ambulance colleagues, completing a 35-mile walk from Street to Bristol and raising thousands of pounds for The Ambulance Staff Charity.

Nico's compassion, resilience, and commitment to supporting others make him a truly deserving recipient of this award.

Congratulations, Nico, on this well-deserved recognition.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the Street Parish Council Awards Evening on Tuesday night. It was wonderful to see so many people come together to celebrate the individuals and groups who make such a positive contribution to our community.

Special thanks go to Will from Shoemakers Museum for capturing the evening with his fantastic photographs, Katie from The Crossing Cafe & Events Catering for the beautiful and delicious cakes, and Christian Lockyer for doing such an excellent job as our compère throughout the evening.

We would also like to thank Robert, Vice Lord-Lieutenant, for joining us and so beautifully reading the tributes to our award recipients.

Congratulations once again to all our nominees and winners, and thank you to everyone who helped make the evening such a memorable success.

We are delighted to announce that Christian Lockyer will be presenting our Awards and Investiture Ceremony tomorrow evening at Strode College.

For anyone who knows Christian, you'll know he will certainly bring plenty of fun and entertainment! For those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting him, here's a little background:

Christian Lockyer was born in Somerset and now lives in Street with his six-year-old poodle. He has spent 26 years working in PR and journalism, and many local people will remember him as the main reporter for the Central Somerset Gazette in the early 2000s.

As well as being a regular contributor on BBC local radio, Christian has two passions outside of work: the Eurovision Song Contest—having just returned from his tenth competition in Vienna—and theatre. He regularly appears in lead roles with the Glastonbury and Street Musical Comedy Society's annual productions, as well as the Glastonbury and Street Pottymouth Squad's popular adult pantomimes.

We look forward to welcoming Christian and enjoying what promises to be a fantastic evening! 🎉🏆
