πŸ¦‹πŸŒ It’s Global Butterfly Week! πŸŒπŸ¦‹

Butterflies are more than just beautiful visitors to our gardens, they are important pollinators and vital indicators of a healthy environment.

Sadly, many butterfly species are facing challenges due to habitat loss, climate change and changes in the countryside.

The good news is that we can all help protect butterflies and their habitats, even with small actions at home and in the community.

🌸 Plant nectar-rich flowers
🌿 Let areas of grass grow wild
πŸ› Avoid pesticides where possible
πŸ¦‹ Support conservation charities such as
πŸ¦‹ Visit a Butterfly Farm!
You can also take part in the Big Butterfly Count this summer by spending just 15 minutes spotting and recording butterflies in your garden, local park or outdoor space. Every count helps build a clearer picture of how butterflies are doing across the UK.
Together, we can help ensure future generations continue to enjoy these amazing insects for years to come πŸ’š

❗️Did you know it is one of the UK’s biggest and most impressive moths, with a wingspan of up to 12cm!

πŸ’— Its scientific name is Sphinx ligustri and the caterpillars feed on plants including privet, lilac and jasmine.

🌿 Usually seen between June and August in gardens, parks and woodland edges, their camouflage is incredible.

πŸ’— When resting, the grey patterned wings help them blend perfectly into bark and foliage, while the hidden pink wings are stunning!

🌿 Believe it or not, this exotic-looking moth can be found in towns and cities across the UK, including urban gardens!
