Stowmarket Town Council is the first tier of local government for Stowmarket in Suffolk. Formed in 1974 from the Stowmarket Urban District Council, the Town Council serves a population of approximately 20,000 people in four wards. We are made up of 16 elected members backed up by a staff of over 30. Our meetings take place on the first and third Wednesdays of the month in the historic John Milton Room, Milton House.

Stowmarket Town Council is delighted to announce that two grants have recently been awarded to local organisations through the Stowmarket Environment Fund.

Wild Heritage Suffolk has received a contribution towards the purchase and installation of three IBC tanks. These will help them make better use of winter rainfall and capture increasingly valuable summer rainwater.

The Food Museum has also been awarded funding towards the purchase of a mini digger hydraulic excavator thumb, which will support the restoration of the grazed floodplain within the museum grounds.

The Stowmarket Environment Fund supports projects that benefit our local environment and help create a greener, more sustainable Stowmarket. 💚

These are just two examples of how local grant funding can help organisations make a positive difference in our community.

👋 Meet Suzi!

We’re pleased to introduce Suzi, our new Community Centre and Facilities Manager.

Suzi will be helping to look after our community centre, supporting the activities that take place there and making sure it remains a welcoming space for everyone.

We’re delighted to have her on board and can’t wait to see all the great things she’ll bring to the role.

📣The 2026 Stowmarket Communities Grant Scheme is now open for applications!

Stowmarket Town Council is offering one-off grants of up to £500 to support local groups, charities and organisations delivering projects, activities and services that benefit the Stowmarket community.

Funding could help support initiatives for children and young people, older people, people with disabilities, families on low incomes and other vulnerable members of our community, as well as projects that bring wider benefits to Stowmarket.

🗓️ Applications close Sunday 18th October 2026

As part of the Communities Team's mission to find out what's going on in Stowmarket today, we're going to explore the useumuk.

The Food Museum, in the heart of Stowmarket, is set across 84 acres of Suffolk countryside. With 17 fascinating buildings to explore and close to 40,000 objects in its collection – from wartime ration recipes to a full-size steam-powered mill engine.

The Food Museum also hosts events, has an epic new play area and is home to Café.

If you have never been, maybe now is the time to explore this area of heritage and wildlife right in the centre of town.

It's karl and Chandra from Fully Loaded Fries 👋

🍟You have probably seen them at Stowmarket Market and our big events so we thought it was about time we found out a little more about them.

Karl and Chandra have been running Fully Loaded Fries for 4 years.

Chandra says her go to topping combo is "it's all gravy baby' BUT her favourite food isn't fries, it's actually pizza 🍕

They are at the market today as part of Foodie Thursday so head down and say hi.
