Nick and the rest of the team from SFRS have returned home from Atlanta after completing the 9/11 memorial climb.
This was a symbolic event where Firefighters from around the world wore a name each to honour one of the 343 Firefighters who tragically lost their life on that day.
What an achievement and a fantastic experience for Nick. Well done 👏

On Thursday, Nick, one of our very own Debenham Firefighters along with 7 others from SFRS are flying to Atlanta, USA to take part in the 2026 Memorial Stair Climb on Saturday 5 September.

The climb forms part of the 25th anniversary commemorations of 9/11.

During the symbolic 110-floor stair climb, all 343 UK participants from fire services from around the world will carry the name and photograph of one of the fallen FDNY firefighters, ensuring every firefighter who lost their life is individually honoured.

The attacks claimed the lives of 2,977 people, including 343 US firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to one of the most significant incidents in modern history.

Selected as part of a UK contingent, Nick and his team will join colleagues from around the world in a powerful act of remembrance.

This is a sponsored event and they are raising money for the Blue Light Card Foundation and the Fire Fighters Charity, as well as the US-based Terry Farrell Foundation.

Good luck Nick! We are very proud of you 👏 🚒 🇺🇸

This Summer at Debenham Fire Station 🚒☀️

What a busy summer we’ve been having so far….

We’ve welcomed our local Cubs to visit us, taken the appliance along to meet our local Brownies group, and enjoyed a fantastic afternoon at the Summer Sizzler. We’ve also been keeping our skills up to date with breathing apparatus training, carried out in an old local supermarket — a great opportunity to train in a realistic environment.

And, of course, there have been plenty of sleepless nights thanks to those all-important shouts! Including the Dunwich fire which we attended 3 times.

During this on-going incident two of our firefighters Nick and Arthur offered their time to help out on the Command Support Vehicle at Dunwich which is a important role ensuring radio communication, tasks and location of crew members was up to date and running smoothly 🚨.

We’re also incredibly proud of our Firefighter Ali, who was deployed to Wales last week as part of a National Deployment to support crews tackling the wildfires. 🔥🚒

It was a fantastic opportunity for Ali to work alongside crews from different areas, use different equipment and learn new skills, while helping communities affected by the fires.

And finally, the summer isn’t over, the ground is still very dry and fires can spread rapidly. Please help us protect our community by following the guidance and advice issued by the fire service and government at this time.

Stay safe, stay vigilant and please think twice before doing anything that could start a fire. ❤️🚒

Witnessing first hand the damage caused by the Dunwich Heath wildfire is a truly humbling experience.

Sometimes all you can do in the middle of such devastation is take a few minutes and appreciate what a beautiful place we live in and why we must preserve and protect it for future generations.
