Powered by plants 🌱

We’ve been making homemade comfrey feed in the Walled Garden - a natural, nutrient-rich alternative to shop-bought fertilisers.

Grown, harvested and made on site, it supports a healthy, balanced garden ecosystem. Thanks to its deep roots, comfrey draws up nutrients from far below the soil, creating a rich liquid feed that is especially high in potassium, perfect for promoting flowers and fruit.

Everyone, meet our new shredder. 🌿

This bit of kit has transformed how we make compost on the estate - cutting the process from 6-18 months down to just 3-6.

The result? High quality compost, comparable to composted manure or shop-bought, but made entirely on site. That means cost savings and eliminates the risk of introducing pests and diseases, as we aren’t bringing any materials in.

So next time you spot a beautifully mulched bed, you’ll know - it all started right here at Stourhead.

It’s the start of Great Big Green Week 🌿

Over the coming days, we’ll be sharing some of the steps we’re taking towards a greener future - starting with greener travel.

Did you know we have 16 RAW Charging bays in our main car park, powered by 100% renewable energy? Perfect for visitors and holidaymakers travelling through the South West.

Getting here by public transport is easier than ever, too. Wiltshire Council’s new on-demand bus service, Wiltshire Connect, links Stourhead with nearby rail stations, offering a convenient, greener alternative to driving. You can find out more about Wiltshire Connect by visiting www.connectingwiltshire.co.uk/getting-around/bus/wiltshire-connect

Postcards from the Walled Garden 🪴

The bees are hard at work in the comfrey, sweet peas are climbing skyward, and the scent of roses drifts softly on the breeze. A little pocket of early summer - don’t miss it on your next visit.

Drawn to Trees has taken root across the garden 🌳

In collaboration with Luke Adam Hawker, Drawn to Trees is a new outdoor trail and evocative open-air exhibition.

Seventeen remarkable trees across the garden have been carefully chosen for their beauty, historical significance and connections to myth and folklore across cultures and centuries. Alongside the trail, the Tree Zodiac exhibition showcases thirteen intricate etchings inspired by an ancient Celtic system that associates thirteen lunar months with different trees.

Come and experience Stourhead in a new way. Tree trails cost £2 and can be picked up from visitor reception. Sketching kits are also available to borrow.

To plan your visit head to our website.
