Dear Wordsley North Resident,
LOCAL ELECTION on Thursday 7th May - a personal message from Keith Archer
After working hard as a councillor on your behalf for the last 2 years Keith is again asking for your vote on Thursday 7th May.
It has not been an easy 2 years with Dudley Council controlled by the Tory Party with the help and support of the Liberal Democrats making over £42m savings this year involving deep cuts to services which our group opposed. We have done our best to hold the administration to account. Keith has played his part as vice chair of the Overview & Scrutiny Committee.
Keith says "my first priority has always been Wordsley North. I have lived in the area for 45 years, volunteering as a school governor for most of that time and I count many of you as friends and neighbours. It is where my wife and I have raised our family and we wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
I support many local groups such as the Friends of Wordsley Parks and our local Greenbelt Protection Groups. I attend as many local events and meetings as possible. I support local businesses, voluntary organisations, our schools, our library, community centre and GP Practice. I do all I can to help and promote what they do for our community. A lot has been achieved but there is always more to do.
I have helped many residents with various issues on an individual basis with pothole repairs, fly-tipping, housing issues, bin collection issues, arguments for free car parking, bus routes, keeping leisure centres in the public realm and a whole lot more. I have been available and aproachable through advice surgeries, email and social media.
I have always been willing to work with my fellow councillors, whatever their political colour, for the benefit of all residents.
Of course there are many difficult national issues and, after 14 years of Tory failure, issues such as the cost of living and hollowed out public services will take time to improve, especially against a background of wars in Europe and the Middle East. I recognise people are impatient for change, I am too. A good start has been made by the government with many positive policies but it has to be admitted mistakes have been made.
However, this election is NOT a vote about Westminster. This is a LOCAL election when you have the opportunity to decide who will represent Wordsley North on Dudley Council.
There are a number of parties contesting this seat and you may be tempted to cast a vote for one of them as a protest against the government. My real concern is that if enough of you do this there is the possibility that Reform UK Ltd. could win here with crazy, unrealistic promises even though the majority of you, like me, probably oppose their policies and their leader's admiration for Presidents Trump and Putin, his belief that the NHS should be converted to a privatised insurance-led service and his recruitment of a host of failed right-wing Tory MPs. When casting your vote please bear in mind the mess Reform are making when they have gained control of councils up and down the country, including some in the midlands!
My clear message is that if you want to stop Reform winning here and want to vote for hope over hatred and unity over division I ask you to lend your vote to me on this occasion. A vote for anyone else will only help Reform.
I will always put Wordsley and the High Acres first. I won't let you down."
