Stony Nightingales WI

Stony Nightingales WI Stony Nightingales WI meets at Swinfen Harris Church Hall, on the second Thursday of each month. Currently the monthly meetings are online via Zoom.

Stony Nightingales WI usually meet at Swinfen Harris Hall, London Road, Stony Stratford on the 2nd Thursday of every month. The WI is the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK. It plays a unique role in enabling women to develop new skills and gives them opportunities to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities. The Women’s Institute was formed in 1915 with two clear

aims: to revitalise rural communities and to encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then our aims have broadened and we are now the largest women’s organisation in the UK. We celebrated our 90th anniversary in 2005 and currently have 205,000 members in 6,500 WIs.

Happy .

International Women’s Day is a time to come together and recognise the incredible achievements of women everywhere. This year, we’re shining a spotlight on the inspiring initiatives led by WI members who have generously given their time, care and skills to support other women.

ICYMI, we hosted our International Women’s Day webinar on Friday, and you can watch it back and hear these powerful stories:

Jane Sorrell and Bramhall WI (Cheshire Federation) shared how one speaker inspired meaningful action to support women in prison including establishing a regular book club.

Nicola Awni from GAP WI (Gwent Federation), a proud member of the Not in My Name Community Champions, who shared her passion for the campaign and the impactful work happening in Wales.

Jane Squirrell from Werrington WI (Huntingdon & Peterborough Federation), who spoke about setting up a prison crafting session – how it began, what they’ve learned, and the powerful impact crafting has had for both members and female residents.

Together, these stories show the strength of women coming together to uplift and empower others. Thank you for all you do, as members, supporters and friends of the NFWI to celebrate and inspire women everywhere.

Afternoon SNWI. On this rainy afternoon I have time to post about our lovely day out to Birmingham last Thursday. 13 of us visited the interesting Back to Backs - all about the living conditions of the damp, dark days of smoke coal filled Birmingham. We had a great guide called Wesley who actually lived in one of these houses and brought his antidotes to life. Unbelievably the Back to Backs were lived in from the 18th century to 1960s!

Our June meeting this Thursday welcomes Doug Stuckey an archaeologist as our speaker. He will be giving us an historical talk about the areas of Stanton Low, Manor, Great Linford Ha-ha and Saxon Burial site at Wolverton, amongst others. I am sure this will be very interesting to find out what was in our local area.

We will have our book stall out at the meeting selling books and puzzles, and donations for the stall are welcome. Books are £2 and puzzles £3 all are good quality and some books are recent released editions.

Hope to see you there.

Good evening ladies,

Please note that this Thursday is our members only meeting. Resolutions Meeting when we will review the resolution that has received the highest votes from WI members across the county which was 'Bystanders Can Be Lifesavers'. As you may recall our WI voted for 'Let's talk about incontinence'. S now decide as a WI if we are for or against the one with the most votes for our delegate to take forward at the annual meeting in June this year.

We will be singing Jerusalem at the meeting which is always lovely to hear and we will have printed words available.

The theme of our meeting will be in recognition of the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, with a short quiz with a team prize. There will also be a cake baking competition. The recipe is attached. If you wish to take part simply bake your cake and bring it in. There is a prize for the winner.

You may like to wear a union jack t-shirt or a red, white and blue outfit. Join in if you prefer.

The pots should be back from last months meeting for those who took part in painting but if you can't make the meeting please don't worry we will let you know where you can collect yours from after the meeting.

We will have raffle tickets for sale on the night for the National WI raffle, please bring along some cash if you wish to purchase any of these.
