YAS CFR, Stokesley & Hutton Rudby Community First Responders We are volunteers trained by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to respond to 999 calls in Stokesley and the surrounding area alongside the ambulance service

We are a team volunteers trained by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service to respond to urgent 999 calls in Stokesley and the surrounding area. As authorised volunteers for the ambulance service, we work as part of a dedicated team whose aim is to reduce the number of Pre-Hospital deaths in Yorkshire. We are trained by YAS in basic life support skills, CPR and the use of Automated External Defibrillator

s, and Oxygen Therapy. We work alongside the YAS crew and are not a replacement for the 999 service. We are always backed up by a YAS clinician. Our role is that of a first responder.

🚑 Could you help save a life in your community? ❤️

Across North Yorkshire, the Yorkshire Dales, and the East Coast & Moors, our Community First Responders (CFRs) play a vital role in supporting patients in the moments that matter most.

CFRs are volunteers trained to attend medical emergencies in their local area, providing early care, reassurance, and life-saving interventions before an ambulance arrives. In many of our rural and coastal communities, this early response can make all the difference.

💬 Why become a CFR?

Make a real difference in your community
Gain valuable lifesaving skills
Meet new people and be part of a supportive team
Give something back in a meaningful way

Our volunteers come from all walks of life, united by one goal helping others when they need it most.

🌼 Bank Holiday Weekend Reflections… … Reflections…

Could You Give a Little Back?

We hope everyone is enjoying the Bank Holiday weekend whether you’re spending time with family, getting out in the sunshine, or simply taking a well earned break ☀️

But while many of us relax, our emergency services are still hard at work… and volunteers play a vital role in supporting local communities across Yorkshire.

💭 So here’s a question to think about this weekend…

Could you spare 20+ hours a month to help save lives in your community?

By becoming a Volunteer Community First Responder (CFR), you could:
✅ Respond to emergency calls in your local area
✅ Provide life saving care before an ambulance arrives
✅ Make a real difference when every minute matters
✅ Be part of a supportive, passionate team

Community First Responders are trained volunteers who respond in their own communities, often arriving first when every second counts.

🌟 No previous medical experience needed – full training provided.

This Bank Holiday, if you’re thinking about doing something meaningful…
👉 Why not answer the call and give back to your community?

what3words

If you're out and about this weekend, please consider downloading what3words, which is used by our staff to identify a patient's exact location in an emergency.

Downloading the what3words app can help you to find and communicate your precise location to 999 teams without an address, and it works offline, making it ideal for places with limited signal.

It’s available via iOS and Android.

Its been a busy week for North Yorkshire area of Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust Volunteer Community First Responders.
Earlier in the week we started swapping out our old CFR bags, these bags have been in service for many a year and needed to be updated. CFRs came to Richmond Station and swapped out, updated and checked they were ready to respond and continue to support their community. Ill be meeting more CFRS next Week at Northallerton Station to continue to support the CFRs bag swap.
Today our latest New CFRs finished their 4 day training course and we must again thank Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service for the use of their venue. We also had last min support from Lodge 123, who supported a last min venue change today.
Volunteer Community First Responders give a min of 20 hours a month in support of patient care within their communities.
Could you help us?
We need more volunteers in Villages around our area.
Especially
Between, Hawes, Arkengarthdale and Richmond,
Scorton, Cowton and Middleton Tyas,
Osmotherly and Masham.

WATCH US ON BBC1 9PM 8.4.26 on AMBULANCE
In Huddersfield, community first responder Roy is allocated to a Category 2 patient suffering with stroke-like symptoms. He is running 15 minutes ahead of the closest available ambulance crew and is quick to carry out a stroke test on the patient to help determine the cause of her right-sided weakness. Once the crew arrive, it’s agreed the safest thing to do is to take the patient to hospital as quickly as possible for treatment.

This episode shines a light on the unique challenges of delivering emergency care across one of the largest and most geographically diverse counties in the country. Across this vast area, the ambulance service often needs to rely on a network of trained and specialist volunteers.
