Stoke Gabriel Community Speed Watch.
One of the major concerns identified by Residents to The Parish Council is the speed of vehicles travelling through the village who are failing to recognise the 20mph and 30mph speed limits. We have a very limited number of footpaths adjoining the public highway and there have been several "near misses" with pedestrians walking at the side of the road. To try and avoid further incidents and injuries The Parish Council are in the process of setting up a Community Speed Watch Group, (CSWG), which residents in the Parish are invited to join.
To become a Member, you will need to complete a mandatory training course, watching short videos and answering various questions. You will need to pass the course to be officially recognised as a trained Member of the Group.
The Group will operate in various locations throughout the village approved by The Police and in all weather conditions. The Police will provide training on the equipment. The Group will merely record the speed of vehicles passing the check point and any over the limit at that particular point will have their details sent to Devon and Cornwall Police for them to decide whether further action is to be taken. Full details of the Community Speed Watch programme can be found on the following web site.

: Speeding has reached epidemic proportions and calls for a paradigm shift in the way we tackle it. That shift must include a change in the perception and management of community volunteers involvement with road safety. https://web2.communityspeedwatch.org/FRONT-v2-The_Scheme.php...
