*** BE SMART, BE SAFE, BE SENSIBLE OVER THE BONFIRE PERIOD ***

πŸŽ† As we approach the season for firework displays it is important to keep safe.

❓ Who can buy fireworks?

It is illegal for retailers to sell fireworks such as party poppers and serpents to anyone who is under 16. To buy and let off all other fireworks, you must be an adult aged 18 or over.

πŸ•°οΈ When can you let off fireworks?

For most of the year, it is illegal to set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am. However, for Bonfire Night this is extended to midnight and for New Year's Eve, Diwali and Chinese New Year the cut off is 1am.

🧨 What fireworks to buy

Look for a UKCA/CE safety mark printed on the product to make sure they’re safe to use.

🦺 Be safe – buy from a registered seller!

πŸ”΄ Safety: Only licensed sellers are authorised to stock and sell fireworks, ensuring the products are safe and stored correctly.

πŸ”΄ Legality: Selling or storing for sale fireworks without a licence is illegal and can result in a Β£5,000 fine or imprisonment.

πŸ”΄ Source: Do not buy from social media adverts or people selling from their homes, as these are often illegal and unsafe.

πŸ”₯ Be safe – prevent a fire

πŸ—‘οΈ If you spot any fly tipping or waste being built up, please report it to our Civic Enforcement team. You can do so by calling 01642 607943 or emailing [email protected].

If you have a large item you need to dispose of it’s easy to book a bulky waste collection. To book: www.stockton.gov.uk/bulky-waste

You can also visit the Household Waste and Recycling Centre. Remember, you must book a slot in advance at www.stockton.gov.uk/haverton-hill

πŸŽ‡ Go to a display

We urge all residents to attend organised, scheduled events, such as the hugely anticipated Stockton Fireworks, which will return with a spectacular display after a five-year absence on Sunday 1 November.

Find out more on other displays in the region: Cleveland Fire Brigade UK website: https://www.clevelandfire.gov.uk/.../firework-displays/

πŸ“ž How to get in touch

It is an offence to sell or store explosives (fireworks) without a licence. If you are aware of unlicensed sellers please contact: [email protected] and to report underage sales contact: [email protected]

⚠️ A19 WEEKEND AND OVERNIGHT CLOSURES: Some important National Highways information about road closures for essential footbridge improvements. πŸ‘‡

⚠️A19 WEEKEND AND OVERNIGHT CLOSURES: Essential footbridge improvements near Stockton on Tees

Please be aware of a full weekend closure and additional weeknight closures on the A19 at the A1027 Norton Interchange as we're giving a new lease of life to the footbridge.

πŸŒ‰We'll be removing the footbridge this weekend (17-19 October), refurbishing it off site before reinstalling it in January 2027.

To allow us to prepare for this operation, remove the bridge and carry out further works on the supporting structures afterwards, we will need to close the A19 between the entry and exit slip roads at the A1027 interchange during these times:

πŸ“… Overnight closures
β€’ 12 to 16 October, 8pm to 6am each night
β€’ 19 to 23 October, 8pm to 6am each night

⚠️ Weekend closure - 17-19 October
The A19 will then be closed as follows:
β€’ 8pm Saturday 17 October – 5am Sunday 18 October: A19 closed in both directions from A139 to the A689
β€’ 5am - 8pm Sunday: A1027 westbound closed from Wolviston Road to the A19 Norton Interchange
β€’ 6am – 8pm Sunday: Closures in both directions on the A19 at Norton Interchange, with traffic diverted off the exit slips through the junction to re-join at the entry slips
β€’ 8pm Sunday - 6am Monday 19 October: A19 closed in both directions from the A139 to the A689
🚦During the weekend closure, temporary traffic lights will be in operation at times on the slip roads. A signed pedestrian diversion will be in place while the footbridge is removed πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈβ€βž‘οΈ

πŸ”ƒAll diversions will be fully signed

Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey. ⚠️

All works are weather dependent and may be rescheduled if conditions are unsuitable. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we carry out these improvements.

As the weather turns colder, many people across our community face the winter without a warm coat. That's why we're supporting Rotary's Wrap Up, a fantastic initiative that collects good-quality, unwanted coats and redistributes them to people who need them most.

Rotary's Wrap Up works with local charities, shelters, community groups and support organisations to ensure donated coats reach vulnerable people in our area.

If you have a clean, wearable coat that you no longer need, please consider donating it.
