In general, we don’t moderate posts – except on the rare occasion that someone has used offensive language or made libellous allegations about named or identifiable individuals on our page. 🏛️ Explore Lyme for free this Heritage Open Day.

This Saturday 12 September, everyone is welcome to discover Lyme, from six centuries of stories inside the house to the garden, deer park and wider estate.

Entry is free all day and there’s no need to book. Step inside the house, try the Regency Dressing Room, wander through the garden or pick up a map and head out into 1,400 acres of parkland.

🚆 Travelling by train? We’re making it easier to leave the car at home too.

As part of our Green Travel initiative, a free minibus will run between Disley railway station and the North Front of the house throughout the day.

From Disley Station:
11.30am | 12.30pm | 1.30pm | 2.30pm | 3.30pm | 4.30pm
Back to Disley Station from Lyme:
11am | 12pm | 1pm | 2pm | 3pm | 4pm

At Disley, the minibus will pick up from the accessible car park on the Manchester side of the railway line, behind the ticket office. Look out for signs at the station.
And if you travel to Lyme by bus or train, show your ticket to receive 10% off your café order.

'After tea we cheered up' – Jane Austen ☕

This September, take a little of Jane’s advice with a Regency Afternoon Tea at Lyme.

Join us in the historic Servants’ Hall for elderflower bubbly, soup, sandwiches, scones and sweet treats, with plenty of tea and coffee to keep the conversation going.

And if you fancy getting properly into the spirit of things, arrive a little earlier and visit the Regency Dressing Room, where you can borrow a dress or suit for your visit.*

There’s something about September at Lyme… 🍂

The summer holidays might be drawing to a close, but there’s plenty to look forward to as the season begins to change.

On 12 September, we’re opening Lyme for free for Heritage Open Day, with a chance to explore 600 years of stories from the house to the wider estate.

On 16 September, you can discover another part of Lyme’s story on our Dry Stone Walling Walk. There are around 18 miles of dry stone walls across the estate, looked after throughout the year by our dedicated volunteer walling teams.

And on 17 September, our first Candlelight Concert brings an evening of music to the historic Chapel as the nights begin to draw in.

A different pace, a changing landscape and plenty more Lyme still to discover.

Calling all good boys, excellent girls and dogs of more complicated character: the National Trust Pooch Passport is back. 🐾

Pick up a free passport at Lyme and collect a stamp each time you and your dog visit a different participating National Trust place.

🐕 5 stamps = a bag of Forthglade dog treats
🐕 10 stamps = an exclusive Pooch Passport pin badge

You can collect your passport and stamps from the Ticket Office, Information Kiosk and shops, and there’s even a Forthglade selfie station waiting for you in the Muddy Paws area of the Timber Yard.

While you’re clocking up those miles, help us look after the places you’re exploring too. Keep dogs close and on a short lead around Lyme, keep an eye on signs, give wildlife and livestock plenty of space, and always pick up after your pooch.

The Pooch Passport runs until 28 February 2027, so there’s plenty of time for some serious walkies. 🐾

The summer holidays aren’t quite finished with us yet… 🌿

There’s one more week to squeeze in some Summer of Play at Lyme.

🏹 Today: have a go at soft archery on the Top Lawn
📚 Wednesday: settle down for Storytime in the Library
🎨 Wednesday & Thursday: get making in our arts and crafts tipi
🏃 Friday: burn off some energy with games on the Top Lawn

And our play hubs and Pokémon zone are here right through to Sunday 6 September.
So, if school shoes have been bought, names have been written in everything and everyone needs one more day outside, you know where we are.

What happens when you look at Lyme’s garden a little more closely?

This Thursday, join artist Vicki Jordan for Printing with Plants, a hands-on creative workshop inspired by the leaves, shapes and textures growing around us.

Children will explore plants from the garden and use them to create their own one-off print to take home. It’s a lovely chance to slow down, notice some of the smaller details of Lyme and turn what you find into something of your own.

🌿 Sessions at 10.30am, 11.45am and 1pm
🎨 Minimum age 5, most suitable for ages 7+
👕 Bring an apron or clothes you don’t mind getting messy
👨‍👩‍👧 Children must be accompanied throughout
Normal admission to the park applies and places must be booked in advance.

There’s something new to discover at Lyme this summer… 👀

Pokémon has joined our Summer of Play, with a brand-new zone to find alongside all the other ways to play across Lyme.

Take on Pokémon Trading Card Game mini challenges, put your skills to the test and collect Mega Evolution stickers as you go. Then keep exploring, with three Summer of Play hubs waiting across the site too.

The Pokémon zone is open every day until 6 September, 10.30am–5pm. There’s no need to book and the activity is free, with normal admission applying.

And if you travel to Lyme by bus, train or bike, show us your valid ticket or bike helmet and you can get free entry to the park and gardens.

🎻 Live folk music at Lyme tomorrow

Bring a picnic, find a spot in the Old Garden Nursery and settle in for an afternoon of footstomping folk with The Gally Canters.

A collective of local musicians and firm friends, The Gally Canters bring together traditional jigs, reels and airs from Ireland and elsewhere, alongside folk songs, covers and their own material.

🎀 Fancy a spin around the maypole?

Maypole Movers are coming to Lyme this Friday for a day of colourful, energetic fun on the West Terrace.

Grab hold of a ribbon and learn the steps as you work together to weave patterns around the maypole. No experience needed, and grown-ups are very welcome to join in too.

🕚 Sessions at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm
📍 West Terrace
🎟️ No booking needed. The activity is free with normal admission.

Suitable for all ages. Children under 6 will need an adult to dance with them.
