We’re proud to be taking part in Volunteers’ Week 2026.

Roy and Douglas have been volunteering in the Emergency Department (ED) for 18 months and both enjoy helping people and would recommend it to anyone.

Roy says:

“The NHS has been good and still is to me and my family. This is my way of paying them back.”

Douglas was retired, had time to spare and enjoys meeting people. It’s also given him an understanding of what it’s like for staff working on the frontline. He says: “It’s made me realise how demanding working in ED is.”

Interested in joining them?

We do have a few volunteering positions available in the Emergency Department on evenings or weekends and also some ward retail trolley roles available.

If you’d like to find out more about these roles please contact Gurmit Jauhal on 01535 225316 or email [email protected]

“It’s improved me as a human being” Mark, volunteer Guide

Mark’s been volunteering with us for a decade!

“I wanted to give something back after receiving great care at the hospital for both my family and me. I enjoy being able to identify those who need a bit of extra help.”

Thank you Mark!

Our volunteers give so much to our organisation, without them we wouldn’t be able to do what we do. Thank you to each and every one of you.

Please do not visit our hospital if you have experienced diarrhoea and/or vomiting in the last 48 hours.

Norovirus is a stomach bug that causes diarrhoea and vomiting and can be very unpleasant but usually goes away in about 2 days.

If you catch it, stay home, rest and have plenty of fluids.
