NEWS FROM WILSHIRE COUNCIL REGARDING PARKING CHARGES

Changes to some parking charges – including the end of free parking allocations – begin from 1 April

As you may be aware, in the recent council budget, several changes to parking fees were agreed.

Some of these will begin from 1 April, including the end of the free parking allocation previously given to town councils. If any councils have requested to use their allocation after this date, those requests are now cancelled.

If you would still like to use Wiltshire Council car parks for events, you can contact the Parking Services team at [email protected], and they will be happy to provide a cost for the use of the areas required.

The full list of changes from 1 April are:
• The end of free event parking for town and parish councils.
• The removal of the free parking after 3pm in Culver Street car park, Salisbury.
• An increase in residents’ visitor parking permits from 40p to 60p.
• A charge for annual visitor permits; these are currently free but will now cost £20.
• An increase of the tradesmen’s waiver, from £11 to £15.
• Sunday charging in all Wiltshire Council car parks.

Other changes to car parking will be subject to a public consultation through the traffic regulation order (TRO) process. The TRO process will begin soon, and will specifically consult on introducing parking charges for Blue Badge holders; increasing car parking charges by 10p per hour on every tariff; and introducing car parking charges at Castle Combe car park. When the process begins, you can have your say on these proposals on our website.

A Note of Thanks from Mother Christmas………..

A BIG thank you to all who helped with the organisation of the Annual Christmas Tree light up event on the Village Green on Sunday 12th December. It was great to be able to have this event back (post Covid restrictions) and to see so many villagers, of all ages, attending.
Special thanks must go to:
Mr and Mrs Townsend – for donating a lovely tree to the village.
Mr & Mrs Wyborn – for providing the electricity to keep the tree lit throughout Christmas.
Adrienne Hale and her choir for the carols and songs that make the event very Christmassy.
All my Elves that help put up the tree, purchase the food, drink and sweets and organise the event, and ‘make it happen’; Lynda Beaven, Jennie Willis, Paula Boardman, Mel Burge, Justine Grace, Bob Beaven and Matthew Lavington
Santa for providing his time during such a busy season……..a big hit with the children.
The Parish council for funding the event
And anyone else who helped make this event special on the day.

We had a small surplus of sweet bags left over that we donated to Julia’s House Hospice for children.

We hope all that attended had a really good time.

Thanks again
Mother Christmas (aka Francesca Buffery King)
