Have your say on Council Tax Support

We’re asking residents for views on next year’s Local Council Tax Support / Council Tax Reduction scheme.

For 2027/28, we’re proposing to keep the minimum contribution rate at 0% - meaning eligible working‑age residents who qualify for maximum support would continue to pay no minimum amount towards their Council Tax. Protections for vulnerable residents, disabled people, carers and pensioners would also remain.

The consultation runs until 14 September (5pm).

Share your views online: https://orlo.https://orlo.uk/42Avn
Paper copies: call 01799 510510

Your feedback will help shape the final scheme for 2027/28.

❌ Never put batteries, vapes or any electrical items with built‑in batteries in your household bins.

🔥 When crushed inside waste vehicles, they can ignite or explode - putting crews and the public at risk.

♻️ You can recycle small electricals safely and easily:
✔️ Small electricals can be put out weekly with your kerbside collection.
✔️ Remove any batteries or lightbulbs
✔️ Leave plugs and cables attached
✔️ Put items in a standard‑size carrier bag (no black bin bags)
✔️ Place the bag on top of your bin by 7am on collection day

♻️ Batteries and integrated‑battery items should be taken to dedicated recycling points across the district.

📌 A little notice board update!

You may have noticed that the notice board near the school is looking a little… bare at the moment!

The Communications Committee have arranged for two of the village notice boards to be cleaned and refurbished, with the aim of also replacing the notice board at the station.

The board near the school is currently enjoying some much-needed TLC and will be back in place soon, looking refreshed and ready to keep everyone up to date with village news, events and information.

Thanks for your patience while we give our notice boards a little spruce up 🌿📋

Due to the hosepipe ban and the drought conditions the Flowerbeds Committee are concentrating on the Memorial Garden.

The hanging baskets and planters are getting watered daily using watering cans. The roses are being watered the same way once a week by the Committee.

The roses look none the worse for this - unbelievably as the photo shows.

A huge thank you to the watering team!
