Thameside Nature Discovery Park - EWT

Thameside Nature Discovery Park - EWT Mucking is positioned right on the working River Thames and the new visitor centre affords fanstastic views over the mudflats and the Thames.

A stunning and innovative Essex Wildlife Trust discovery centre and Nature Park created on a former landfill site, with superb views over Mucking Flats SSSI and Thames Estuary. Essex Wildlife Trust is working to transform Mucking landfill site into a Living Landscape, this is the biggest project Essex Wildlife Trust has ever delivered. The site is 120 acres at the moment (and will be 845 acres) , it is a tremendous habitat for coastal and wetland wildlife, as well as very important grasslands, woodlands and hedgerows. The area is an avian hotspot and there are already internationally important numbers of Ringed Plover and Avocets and nationally important numbers of Grey Plover, Dunlin, Godwit and Redshank. The Nature Park is situated between East Tilbury and Stanford le Hope, just off A13. The Nature Park is important for many species including Barn Owls, Short Eared Owls, Water Voles (our fastest declinning species), Harvest Mouse, Skylark, Shrill Carder Bee, plus many more butterfly, moth and other invertebrate species. However, these are not the only beneficiaries, Cattle graze the site at certain times of the year and eventually people will be able to enjoy over 12 miles of new footpaths, bridleways and cycle ways. The visitor centre has an observation room/ tearoom and allows 360 degree views of the nature park and Thames from the fully accessible ( wheelchair & pushchair friendly) roof top viewing deck. A (disabled friendly) Bird hide over looking the sssi mudflats and a wonderful natural play area for children to enjoy.

Evening Sound Healing with JOMO Healing

As daylight fades over the estuary, Thameside Nature Discovery Park becomes a very different place.

The visitors have gone.
The centre is quiet.
And beyond the windows, the landscape slowly disappears into the evening.

It's here that we'll gather for an intimate evening of Sound Healing, surrounded by candlelight with the estuary stretching out beyond us.

For one uninterrupted hour, you can step away from everything that's been asking something of you.

No phone. No rushing. No need to be anywhere else.

Just somewhere warm and quiet to lie down, exhale and let the day go.

We'll begin with a gentle guided meditation before moving into the sounds and vibrations of crystal singing bowls, shamanic drum and chimes, allowing you to settle further into stillness as the room fills with sound.

You don't need to clear your mind.
You don't need to know how to meditate.
And you certainly don't need to be good at relaxing.

Just come as you are.

Get comfortable. Let your eyes close.

And for the next hour, let everything else wait.

Stanford Warren Nature Reserve…a stone’s throw from Thameside.

Access via the gate (pictured) by Mucking Church or walk through the sluice gate at Harris Hide on our reserve …after a short way turn left onto the path through the reserve.

This fascinating reedbed habitat was created by gravel extraction in the 1920s, but now it supports an exciting number of species. During spring and summer the reedbeds come alive with the sound of birds, including cettis, reed and sedge warblers which all breed here. This is particularly important because the endangered cuckoo regularly uses these warblers as hosts for their eggs. Listen out for their famous call during the summer months. On a warm day you might also catch a glance of reptiles basking in the sun near the rough grassland.
