👮‍♂️⛳ Community Engagement – On and Off the Course

PCSOs Melson, Bhamra, and Ashford recently teed off at Ashford Manor Golf Club, meeting with members to chat about local concerns and offer crime prevention advice. The team attended after receiving reports that a suspicious male had been seen at the location previously, raising concerns from staff and users of the golf course.

We were pleased to help drive down theft by providing property marking and assisting members in marking their golf clubs – helping keep your equipment safe and increasing the chances of recovery if it ever goes missing 🏌️‍♂️🔐
A big thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat – working together is always a hole-in-one when it comes to keeping our community safe 👏

If you’d like more information on property marking or have any concerns, please get in touch.

Last night, we were pleased to host the Spelthorne ‘Policing Your Community’ event, bringing together local residents, Surrey Police leaders, and the Police and Crime Commissioner.

We discussed a range of topics, including residents’ concerns around gambling sites and the subsequent rise in crimes such as antisocial behaviour. We also provided an update on the project. While this initiative focuses on Ashford, it is having a positive impact on surrounding areas in Spelthorne, particularly in tackling issues such as drugs and shoplifting, which we know are key concerns for residents.

Chief Constable Tim De Meyer, Borough Commander Inspector Matthew Walton, and Police and Crime Commissioner Lisa Townsend reassured residents that their concerns are being taken seriously and encouraged them to continue reporting concerns to us because this helps us build up a bigger intelligence picture so we can take action.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion. Events like these provide a valuable opportunity for residents to speak directly with senior police leaders and help shape local policing priorities.

If you couldn’t attend, we are hosting a virtual session on Tuesday 21 July from 18:00–19:30. A registration link can be found in the comments.

Well, thank goodness we didn't have this rain at our Parkrun last month! Officers and PCSOs spoke proactively with locals at the Hazelwood Centre in Sunbury to discuss our Force priority of ending Violence Against Women and Girls. We also encouraged runners to speak with us about areas in the borough that make them feel unsafe when out keeping fit, alongside any other concerns. A morning full of opportunities for us; events like this allow us to stay up to date with local concerns, gather vital information to inform our operational work and improve our relationship with the people we serve.

We'll be back at the Hazelwood Centre tomorrow night for Spelthorne's 'Policing Your Community' Event, with Borough Commander Insp Matt Walton, Chief Constable Tim De Meyer and Police and Crime Commissioner Lisa Townsend. Check the comments for the sign up link! 🏃

This year, Operation Replicate brought together police and partner agencies across Sussex, Surrey and neighbouring counties in a coordinated effort to tackle rogue traders and protect communities from doorstep crime. The aim was to prevent people from becoming victims, disrupt criminal behaviour, and protect those most at risk.

Rogue traders often target vulnerable people, such as older residents or those living alone. They go door‑to‑door offering services like roofing, driveway repairs or gardening, often claiming urgent work is needed and using pressure to secure quick agreement and large upfront payments. The work is often poor, incomplete or unnecessary.

On Friday the Safer Neighbourhood Team supported by Licencing officers from both Surrey Police and Spelthorne Borough Council carried out a test purchase operation for underage sales following reports from our community engagements. To complete these we are further supported by members of our Police cadets to complete attempts to buy alcohol underage. We completed the following in Ashford :

10 LICENCED PREMISES CHECKED

3 licenced premises failed - selling alcohol

1 premises license now under review due to multiple alleged breaches

And, as our officers are always on the lookout......

2 alleged shoplifters detained on Church Road Ashford - 1 was arrested and found to also be wanted for allegedly stealing a purse from an elderly victim in a charity shop as well as two other offences. 👮‍♀️ 🚓
1 vulnerable adult given the help and support they needed

We are very proud and grateful for the support of young cadets in one of many activities they do. If you are interested in joining cadets we have groups based in the majority of our boroughs including Spelthorne. If you are aged between 13 and 17 living in Surrey then go to our website for more details. Plus they are always on the lookout for more volunteers to be adult leaders for the groups so please again go to the Surrey police webpage for more details. There is also a range of other volunteer opportunities on the webpage 😀

👮‍♂️ Great work by your Safer Neighbourhood Team!
As part of their shift yesterday, officers and PCSOs linked up with South Western Railway as part of . More photos to come, but here are a couple of snaps from the day! As well as deterring fare-dodging and those who use the rail network to commit a host of different crimes in our community, we were also able to speak with lots of locals and to work with SWR's lovely staff to understand how we can continue to support them in making the station safer for all.

But the hard work didn't end there; following the operation, whilst wheeling a seized e-bike back to the station, Sergeant Jackson spotted a male who had previously run from police and was wanted for arrest. She and PCSO Brown (inspired by the python he met on foot patrol past Walk On The Wildside Reptile & Aquatic Ashford last week) quickly moved in and restrained the suspect as he tried (and gloriously failed) to flee, making further back-up officers' jobs a lot easier on a hot day. The suspect was arrested for:
✅ 4x shoplifting offences
✅ Resisting arrest..and then recalled to prison 🙃

👏 Excellent teamwork and determination!
