The Tea Boat Project

The Tea Boat Project The Tea Boat Project (charity no. 1198057) - a community enterprise in a wonderful riverside setting

The project is focussed on the regeneration and conservation of the natural environment, which had been neglected for many years and consequently avoided by locals and passersby. The Project aims to provide a safe space and opportunities for all members of the local community and visitors to learn about, or to simply enjoy and to value this historic and scenic location. We especially look to provi

de opportunities for people of less privileged circumstances, and seek to enthuse and engage the younger community who will inherit this space. The ultimate goal of our founder was for a floating café, providing additional work opportunities as well as a year-round amenity for locals and visitors and the adjacent business community. General Volunteering: The Project offers many opportunities to get involved, whether as an individual on our regular weekday sessions, or on company working days where we take advantage of larger teams to assist in delivering certain projects that we may not have time to complete ourselves. During Summer months, we may additionally offer some Saturday sessions for those who cannot make weekdays. Environment: The Project recently commissioned an ecological study from Surrey Wildlife Trust to inform our longer-term plans about the maintenance of vital habitat for animal and plant life. We want to integrate this with other like-minded organisations so that a sustainable and diverse environment is maintained along the river frontage.

Beautiful sunny day at the Teaboat Project yesterday.

Volunteers worked on tidying up the kitchen garden and preparing path edging ready for painting.

Could we request that cigarette butts are put in the bins or use a butt box to take off site and dispose later. Many thanks.

Great to have some sunshine and warmth down at the Teaboat Project yesterday. It has been a long, cold, wet winter, very much looking forward to Spring.

Volunteers worked on tidying up the entrance to the path leading down to the river by Staines Bridge including extricating boundary post no 85 which had been consumed by the hedge. See the attached before and after photos.

Boundary post no 85 is one of a number in the area, erected in the 1860's, that indicate the points where taxes on coal were due to the City of London. You will find post no 84 on the towpath at the end of River Park Avenue and no 86 on the traffic island at the end of The Hythe.

You can find out about boundary posts at:

***Box Your Butts***

Volunteers at the Teaboat Project attend to a number of tasks during the year while looking after the Thames Path between Staines Bridge and River Park Avenue.

Thankfully time is not overly consumed picking up litter however there is an ongoing issue with discarded cigarette ends.

You may be aware that Keep Britain Tidy have a behaviour change campaign which encourages people to bin their butts. If a bin is not available people can use a container, portable ashtray, or a Keep Britain Tidy Butt Box. Butt boxes can be ordered via the link below, they are free, just a small charge for postage.

Please do share this with anyone who could make use of a butt box and help keep the area clean and tidy for everyone to enjoy.

Many thanks.

We are actively seeking to create a water quality monitoring station for Staines to inform our community about the state of the river which runs alongside the conservation work we do on the bank along our site. People swim in this section of the Thames, anglers fish in it, there is kayaking, paddle-boarding and rowing. The river is the lifeblood of our town and must be protected.

I just signed 's petition calling on political leaders to rescue our rivers and freshwaters to health for nature and people by 2030. Will you join me and add your name?
