Healthwatch Staffordshire Healthwatch Staffordshire is the consumer champion giving local people in Staffordshire a voice to promote and sustain quality health and social care services.

Healthwatch Staffordshire are an independent watchdog that has been formed to make local health and social care services better for people by ensuring that their views and experiences are taken into account by those entrusted to design and run services. Like all local Healthwatch bodies, Healthwatch Staffordshire has a statutory seat on the local Health and Wellbeing Boards – the body that oversee

s health and social care in the city and county. We also have the statutory power to enter and view health and social care services using our trained volunteers. Healthwatch Staffordshire has a place on the new Quality Surveillance Groups that are being set up in the NHS to monitor provider quality.

💷Would you like to earn £500 for your Staffordshire group?

🪢If you are a charity, CIC or community group in Staffordshire, you could earn £500 for your group if your members can provide feedback on Health and Social Care Services in Staffordshire

🪙We have a pot of money – our Engagement Fund – set aside for this activity with the two research topics for this year outlined below. You can also participate if you can give any general feedback on health and social care services in the area.

a) Carers, Care of Older People and End of Life Planning
This project will investigate carers’ experiences of care and support for older people, focusing on end-of-life care, the use and understanding of ReSPECT forms and Advance Care Planning.

b) Diabetes and Footcare
For this project we want to hear about patients’ experiences of Diabetic Footcare. We are teaming up with John Bridges, the Chair of the East Staffordshire and Surrounds Diabetes UK Patient Network for this project.

👉To register your interest please email us on [email protected]

Your group will then be invited to join our project on the Basecamp platform.
From Basecamp you then can apply for the Engagement Fund using the simple online Form.

This year we are expecting groups to make the arrangements to collect feedback from their members using paper or online forms that we will provide. Please note that it will take us a while to sort through your applications, so don’t worry if you do not get a response immediately!

We hope to hear from you shortly.

🫂This week is which is an annual awareness campaign to celebrate and recognise the vital contribution made by the UK's 5.8 million carers.

📣This feels like a good time to tell you about our new research (Deep Dive) project. This will focus on carers’ experiences of care and support for older people, focusing on end-of-life care, the use and understanding of ReSPECT forms and Advance Care Planning.

‍🫶Initially we are reaching out to Staffordshire carers’ groups to learn more about how this affects people caring for a loved one. We are also planning a survey and focus groups on the topic.

👉You can find out more about ReSPECT forms here: https://www.resus.org.uk/respect

👉We would also like to direct you to general information for carers which may be helpful at: https://www.carersweek.org/about-carers-week/information-for-carers/

For Carers' Week, we would like to share this post from Staffordshire Together for Carers Service with details of how Carers in Staffordshire can access support. Here are some links to other useful sources of information:

Those living in Stoke-on-Trent may be able to get help from North Staffs Carers

On the Staffordshire County Council website, find out if you are a carer, what a Carer’s Assessment is, how to get support, and how to plan for emergencies. What respite is, who can get it, how to apply, and the support available for carers.
https://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/adult-social-care/carers-and-family

Another source of help and advice for Carers is Carers UK

It’s Carers Week (8–14 June)

Carers Week is a national campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face, and help people identify as carers and access support.

We’re proud to be working with GP surgeries across Staffordshire to help create more carer-friendly communities 💙

Through the Carer Friendly Quality Mark, practices are taking positive steps to better identify, support and raise awareness of unpaid carers 🙌

It’s fantastic to see local services recognising the important role carers play and making changes that can have a real impact on their day-to-day lives.

Together, we’re helping build a community where carers feel seen, valued and supported
