From ESFA Schoolgirl to the World Cup stage! 🌍🏆

Cecily Wellesley-Smith has been selected to represent England at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, which kicks off today in Poland! 🦁

Cecily was part of the ESFA U15 Schoolgirls squad in 2021, representing Oxfordshire CSFA, before continuing her journey through the England youth pathway.

After progressing through Oxford United, Cecily joined Arsenal in 2024 before signing her first professional contract with the Gunners in 2025.

Now, she takes her place on the world stage with the Young Lionesses. 🌍🦁

What a journey. What an achievement. ❤️

The 2026/27 Barclays Women’s Super League season kicks off today, and we’re excited to see some familiar faces taking to the biggest stage. 🌟

These players have represented the ESFA through our schools’ football competitions and, for some, the England Schoolgirls international programme.👏

From representing their schools to competing at the highest level of the women’s game, their journeys are a fantastic example of where schools’ football can lead. 💙

We’ll be cheering them on throughout the season, while keeping a close eye on the next generation of talent coming through our competitions. 👀
