A group of students have produced a series of books capturing in pictures the regeneration work in Stafford.

Fifty-five staff and students from Stafford College's BTEC Photography course undertook the huge project in their own time over the last four years to compile a pictorial documentation of the work.

Tens of thousands of photos were taken to produce the seven books - including before and after demolition of town centre schemes such as the derelict former Co-op Department Store, the refurbishment of Market Square, and construction of the Institute of Technology (IoT).

Sets of the books will be available in the college and town centre libraries, Staffordshire History Centre, and copies will also be sold to help raise funds for Katharine House Hospice, Stafford.

Retired photography lecturer, Sue Bowdery, along with former students, Grace and Tom, presented a set of books to Council Leader, Aidan Godfrey (pictured). Sue said: "We are all very grateful for this incredible work experience project which allowed us complete autonomy whilst giving access to photograph."

It was great to see around 100 people attending last week's drop-in session to see the vision for a future Stafford Town Centre - with an overwhelmingly positive response to the proposals.
And we have three sessions this week at the Guildhall Shopping Centre where you can hear, and see, more about the 'Development Framework' - the blueprint for the town centre transformation.

The next drop-in is tomorrow (Wednesday) and will run from 11am to 3pm.
There will be further sessions on Thursday and Saturday and you can see more information from a link in the comments.

🌧️ A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is in place across Staffordshire, with heavy rain expected over the coming days.

Heavy rainfall can quickly lead to flooding, surface water on roads, and dangerous travel conditions. We're reminding everyone to take extra care and plan ahead. Please remember:

🚗 Slow down and leave extra distance between you and the vehicle in front, as stopping distances increase in wet weather.

💧 Never drive through flood water. It can be difficult to judge how deep it is, and driving through flooded roads could leave you stranded, damage your vehicle, or put lives at risk.

🗞️ Keep up to date with local news, weather forecasts, and any road closures before you travel.

🚨 If there is an immediate risk to life, call 999.

Stay safe and take extra care while the warning is in place.

The next town centre drop-in session takes place this Thursday (27th).
What: See the blueprint for the future of the town centre
When: Thursday 27th - between 11am and 3pm
Where: The Guildhall Shopping Centre

The ‘Development Framework’ sets out an exciting vision for the town centre, including proposals for:
✅ A new market hall - with artisan retail, business start-ups, food and drink, competitive socialising, performance space….
✅ Around 200 new homes
✅ Protection and enhancing views of historic landmarks
✅ New pocket parks and green spaces
✅ Expansion of the college

Councillors and officers will be on hand to tell you more about it.

It is part of the major transformation of the county town.
