| Staffordshire Police, and it's neighbouring Forces are seeing an increase in both the theft of and theft from tractors.

Offenders are targeting vehicles as well as high‑value components such as GPS units, batteries, tools, and fuel.

These crimes are often fast, organised, and carried out by individuals who know exactly what they’re looking for.

This trend is affecting farms, smallholdings, contractors, and rural businesses, and we’re asking owners to take a moment to reassess their security and strengthen any weak points.

🚜 Why tractors are being targeted?

• High resale value on domestic and overseas markets
• Quick‑to-remove parts like GPS, screens, and batteries
• Remote locations that give offenders time and cover
• Predictable routines that make planning easier for criminals

Each of these factors makes tractor security more important than ever.

🔐 What can you do to increase security?

• Review your perimeter: Check gates, fences, hedges, and access points. A single weak spot is often all an offender needs.

• Upgrade physical security: Steering locks, wheel clamps, immobilisers, and heavy-duty chains make theft slower and riskier.

• Secure GPS and electronics: These are prime targets. Use tamper-proof brackets or remove units when not in use.

• Improve lighting: Motion-activated lighting around yards and barns removes the cover offenders rely on.

• Install CCTV: Even basic systems deter opportunists and help us identify suspects.

• Mark and register equipment: Forensic marking and national databases increase the chance of recovery.

• Store keys securely: Never leave keys in the ignition or hidden nearby.

• Vary routines: Change parking spots, timings, and storage habits to make planning harder for offenders.

• Report suspicious activity: Reporting helps us build intelligence and act before further offences occur.

👮‍♂️ Small changes can make a big difference. Staying alert, reviewing your security, and reporting anything unusual helps protect not just your property, but the wider rural community.

| Last night, PC Darren Wilkes and PCSO Chad Carrington from the Cannock Police Rural Crime Unit delivered an insightful and hands‑on presentation to 20 dedicated Special Constables who volunteered their own time to attend.

The session equipped our Specials with stronger skills, sharper awareness, and a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by our rural communities. This added knowledge means they’re now even better prepared to support residents, protect rural livelihoods, and play an active role in tackling issues unique to countryside policing.

A huge thank‑you to everyone involved, your willingness to learn, share, and step up makes a real difference across our rural areas.

| Cannock Police, PC Darren Wilkes and PCSO Carrington recently visited Rodbaston Campus, part of South Staffordshire College, to speak with the Equine students about a range of important topics. 🐴👨‍🏫

They covered road safety, tack marking, crime prevention, and several other issues relevant to horse owners and riders. The session gave students practical advice on how to stay safe on the roads, protect their equipment, and play an active role in preventing rural crime.

A big thank you to the staff and students at Rodbaston for the warm welcome and great engagement throughout the visit.

| Do you have a horse and live in, or near, the District? 📍🗺️

The team are looking to run further tack‑marking sessions in the very near future.

Tack marking is a simple but effective way to protect your equipment, deter theft, and help us return items to you if they’re ever lost or stolen.

If you’d like your tack marked, we’d love to hear from you.

Email [email protected] to find out when and where the next sessions are scheduled. 🐴🔏

| A polite reminder to everyone enjoying Staffordshire's Rural Spaces: please avoid parking in front of access barriers. 🚧🚫

These gates are vital entry points for land managers and emergency services, and blocking them puts people, wildlife, and the landscape at risk.

With the ground extremely dry, even a small fire can spread rapidly. Fire crews must be able to reach incidents without delay, and a single badly parked vehicle could cost precious minutes.

Please be aware: vehicles obstructing emergency access routes may be seized or, if necessary, forcibly moved or damaged so crews can get through in an emergency. We want to avoid this, and your cooperation makes all the difference.

Thank you for helping us keep Staffordshire safe for everyone.

| Cannock Police been made aware of ongoing criminal damage and anti‑social behaviour at Marquis Drive, Cannock Chase.

Individuals have been repeatedly forcing the Visitor Centre car park barrier open, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage, and then using the car park as a racetrack.

Patrols in the area will now be increased, and CCTV is being deployed to monitor the barrier and identify those responsible.

We will not tolerate this behaviour. If you witness any suspicious or dangerous activity in the area, please get in touch with us immediately.

| We have received reports of an aggressive deer in the in the Cannock Police area.

The behaviour appears to be linked to the deer protecting its territory, which is common at certain times of year. To keep both residents and pets safe, we are issuing the following advice:

🦌 If you see a deer, keep your distance and do not approach it.

🦌 Keep dogs on a lead, even if your dog has excellent recall, a deer may still perceive it as a threat.

🦌 Avoid the area if you know deer are present, especially during early morning or evening when they are most active.

Our priority is ensuring the safety of the community while allowing local wildlife to remain undisturbed.

| We've had a fantastic couple of days at the Staffordshire County Show , chatting with Staffordshire residents and visitors who travelled from far and wide to enjoy this brilliant event.

It was great to connect with so many people, share advice, and hear what matters most to our rural communities. And of course, we loved seeing the incredible animals on display.

From champion livestock to the friendliest farm favourites, the show really highlighted the best of Staffordshire’s rural life.
