| If you help someone with their physical or mental health, you’re a carer and you’ve got every right for support 💙

From a get together over a cup of tea, to emotional and practical support, you can have what you need to support your wellbeing and to keep caring for as long as you want to.

Paul and Ruth are just two of the hundreds of carers that are supported by us and Staffordshire Together for Carers Service everyday. Being a carer is tough for them, but they manage well from taking advantage of the support available.

Paul from has been a carer for his dad for 10 years, who has dementia and other health challenges. He reached out to Staffordshire Together for Carers for help, and says it was the best thing he’s ever done 🌟

➡️ You can take the carers assessment online or ring Staffordshire Together for Carers Service on 0300 303 0621 to get the support you need.

We’re planning a major investment to boost skills, support young people, and help Staffordshire’s economy grow 📈

Our Skills for Growth Plan sets out a £150 million programme to strengthen the county’s workforce. £40 million has already been secured, with a further £110 million being sought from the Department for Education to expand 16 to 18 education and training provision.

Demand for college places is rising as our population grows and more young people want to learn new skills. Without investment, there is a real risk that some could miss out on opportunities, while local employers face growing skills shortages.

The plan focuses on creating more training places, improving college facilities, and helping both young people and adults gain the skills they need. It also supports people into work, strengthens careers advice, and expands lifelong learning opportunities 📝

This builds on programmes already making a difference, including the Staffordshire Jobs and Careers Service, Connect to Work, the Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Careers Hub and its Community Learning courses.

The plan will be discussed by Cabinet on Wednesday 17 June.

Did you know one of the country’s top pubs is right here in ? 🏆

The Tamworth Tap at Tamworth Brewing Co has been named Pub of the Year by CAMRA for four years running 👏

There is a great choice of ales, including many brewed next door at the microbrewery.

Inside, the building dates back to the 16th century and is full of character. You will spot original features and a historic cellar that keeps the beer at just the perfect temperature all year round.

There is also live music and regular events, so there is always something going on 💃

If you are following the Staffy trail and are over 18, it is well worth a visit.

We’ve delivered a strong financial performance for 2025 to 2026, while continuing to support people who need it most and invest in our county.

A final report on our financial performance shows that we delivered within one per cent of our £753 million budget.

Around two thirds of this was spent on supporting vulnerable residents, including nearly £330 million on adult social care and £223 million on services for vulnerable children, young people and their families.

We’ve also continued to invest in Staffordshire’s future. Through Government funding and contributions from developers, we have:
✅ Invested £74 million in highways projects
✅ Invested more than £29 million in new and improved school buildings

Highways improvements include work on the A4091 in Fazeley, improvements in Tamworth town centre, and new cycle routes and crossings in Newcastle, helping connect Keele University with Stoke railway station.

We’ve invested in schools across the county, including Oldfields Hall Middle School in Uttoxeter, Blythe Bridge High School, Shortbutts Lane in Lichfield, Paulet High School in Burton, and Dunstall Park in Tamworth.

Celebrate National Carers Week! 💙

We were absolutely delighted to welcome our Chief Executive, Pat Flaherty, to our stand at SP1 today!

During his visit, Pat took the time to chat with the team about the vital role that unpaid carers play every single day. We discussed the importance of making sure our carers feel fully seen, valued, and supported - not just out in our wider communities, but right here within our own workplace.

A huge thank you to Pat for dropping by and for championing this incredibly important cause. If you're passing by Staffordshire Place 1 in we will be here until Friday 12 June from 9am-5pm. Please come over, say hello, and find out more about how we can all better support the carers in our lives.

So far this academic year, more than 2,000 residents have taken part in our Community Learning courses 🌟

✅ Courses are delivered in over 30 community venues, online and through outreach activities,
✅ 99% pass rate across all programmes
✅ 99% of learners would recommend the service to family and friends.

Many learners hadn’t studied for years, and half reported having a learning difficulty, disability or long-term mental health condition. These courses are making a real difference – from boosting confidence to improving health and social connections.

We’re also introducing new topics like critical thinking and AI literacy, helping people prepare for modern workplaces and stay safe online.

The Community Learning Accountability Agreement for 2026/27 sets out how we will deliver flexible learning, including new Skills Bootcamps. Skills Bootcamps allow individuals and employers to develop valuable, sector specific skills.

The report will be discussed at the next meeting of the council’s Cabinet on Wednesday 17 June.

Whether you're looking to boost your job prospects, explore a new interest or gain confidence with practical skills, there’s something for everyone. To explore courses, visit the link in the comments.
