If you breakdown on a motorway or dual carriageway, make sure you're out of the vehicle and behind the crash barrier as soon as possible.

Fortunately the driver of this van had done exactly that so there were no injuries when this skip lorry ploughed into the back of it in Peterborough yesterday.

More information on what you should do if you see, or are involved in, a collision or road incident is available on our website

Research has shown that drivers using a phone at the wheel (even handsfree) …

o Are four times more likely to be involved in a collision
o Are far less likely to notice and react to hazards
o Take much longer to react to any hazards they do see
o Look directly at hazards yet fail to see them
o Show poor lane discipline
o Make more variable speed choices

In fact, their driving is impaired to a similar degree as that of a drink driver.

Thank you to all the drivers who we don’t need to take action against, we all need to do our bit to keep ourselves and other road users safe.
