Poets of Southwell, listen up! 👂📢

The programme is out now! Join us for a week of wonderful words with celebrations taking place across the county. Expect workshops, performances and a fascinating exhibition as we approach . Here's what's in store at Southwell Library this year:

⭐ John Clare & Me, Two Lives in Poetry and Music
Sunday 27 September, 3:30pm
Not Scary Poetry Society presents an afternoon inspired by the life and work of John Clare, the ‘Northamptonshire peasant poet’, through poetry and music. Discover words and melodies shaped by Clare’s deep connection to the English countryside and natural world, accompanied by tea and cake. Tickets £7, booking advised.

⭐ Film screening: Romeo + Juliet (1996)
Thursday 1 October, 2pm
Join us for a special Poetry Festival film screening celebrating the much loved Shakespearean play. Enjoy an introduction by poet, freelance writer and film tutor Andrew Graves as he dives into Shakespeare's famous play updated to the modern suburb of Verona still retaining its original dialogue. Tickets £3, booking advised.

Grab your musical passport because the Destination: Music family concert is coming to Southwell Library! ✈️🌍

📍Southwell Library - Saturday 19 September, 3.30pm

Join our team of explorers for a high-octane journey across continents! Discover incredible rhythms, rare instruments and secret sounds of our world. Collect stamps in your passport along the way. Once we reach our final destination, it's over to you to try out the instruments and meet the musicians.

A new addition to our Destination: Music! family concerts in libraries - your own musical passport! ✈️🌎

Each child will be given their own musical passport and collect stamps as we visit each destination - discovering incredible rhythms, rare instruments and secret sounds of our world along the way. Plus stay a while when we reach our final destination to try out the instruments and meet the musicians 🎶

The Destination: Music! concert is coming to Southwell Library on Saturday 19 September at 3pm!

Episode 4 of our I Am A Storyteller podcast is out now! 🎙️

In this latest episode, Annie Warren sits down with storyteller Ling Peng to explore her journey, creative practice, and experiences as part of the I Am A Storyteller project.

A classically trained Erhu musician, Ling combines traditional Chinese music with storytelling to create engaging and inspiring performances 🎵

As part of the project, Ling worked closely with Spectrum WASPS in Mansfield, using storytelling and music to connect with participants and share Chinese culture in an authentic and engaging way.
