George Lucas once admitted that Boba Fett’s death in RETURN OF THE JEDI was a mistake in hindsight, saying, “Had I known he was gonna turn into such a popular character, I probably would’ve made it a little bit more exciting.”

Lucas explained that he originally viewed Boba as simply another bounty hunter and villain, never expecting a character with so little screen time to develop such a massive presence in STAR WARS.

His popularity became so overwhelming that Lucas even considered adding a shot showing Boba climbing out of the Sarlacc pit, although he ultimately decided against changing the ending.

Decades later, STAR WARS finally made Boba Fett’s survival official through THE MANDALORIAN before giving him his own series, proving just how far that supposedly disposable bounty hunter had come.
