Headway Southampton

Headway Southampton Headway Southampton and West Wessex is an independent charity offering support, advice, rehab to adults with an acquired brain injury(ABI)

Headway works with people who have had an acquired brain injury along with their families and partners. We provide a community based rehabilitation service from our premises in Totton covering South Hampshire and Southampton, for survivors of traumatic injuries such as assaults or road traffic accidents; and non- traumatic conditions such as a tumour, stroke or infection. Brain injuries bring a wi

de range of difficulties and in particular problems with mobility, communication, memory problems, awareness and emotional adjustment. Our aim is to support our clients to recover as much independence and self – confidence as possible both at home and in the community. We do this through a wide range of activities such as cooking, fitness and sport, risk awareness, support into paid and voluntary work, education and IT qualifications.

We are so fortunate to have such wonderful people who choose Headway Southampton and West Wessex to fundraise for.

The fabulous Clive Elkins is braving the elements in September and undertaking a very large walk for us. Clive will be walking from the New Forest to Lands’ End Cornwall, approximately 256 miles and is anticipated to take between 2 to 3 weeks to complete.
Clive will donning his Headway Southampton and West Wessex tee-shirt on his walk and will appreciate any support & donations to his Just Giving page.

Today marks the 1st day of Action for Brain Injury (ABI) Week, a time for us to raise awareness of brain injury and its wider impact.

The theme this year is loneliness and isolation. In January 2026, Headway UK launched a survey into the levels of isolation following a brain injury to help shape the 2026 campaign.

The results are striking, with 87% of those brain injury survivors and 85% of carers responding feeling lonely - despite not feeling lonely before the injury.

At Headway Southampton and Wessex we provide a Day Centre with AM & PM activities & regular on-line and in-person support groups.

Lovely to attend the award presentation of our friends at Testwood Lakes Sailability today receiving their King’s Award for Voluntary Service from the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire.

Our service users at Headway Southampton really do love their sessions on the lakes; the facilities are amazing and are run by such a dedicated team of volunteers who supervise the sessions. This includes our own service user Karl who has volunteered at the lakes for many years.

Congratulations to you Karl & all the other volunteers from us all!
