As the Men’s World Cup approaches, we’re shining a light on what matters most: feeling safe at home and knowing where help is available.

Research shows domestic abuse incidents can increase by up to 38% after matches, a reminder that behind the celebrations, some people face a very different reality.

At Abri, we’re using this moment to raise awareness, support those affected, and remind everyone that a safe home matters more than any scoreline.

At Abri we believe everyone has the right to a safe home in a community where they can belong, grow and thrive. You may be aware of the protests that happened in Southampton this week following the tragic death of Henry Nowak. We’d like to use this time to remind you that we have a zero-tolerance approach to hate and discrimination in our communities.

We will take reasonable and proportionate action when dealing with reports of hate crime and hate incidents from our customers.

If you experience a hate crime or discrimination you can contact us on 0300 123 1567. You can also report incidents to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. If you are in immediate danger or a crime is taking place please call 999.

From volunteering to Centre Assistant at The Reed! 🌟

When Maria spotted a volunteering opportunity in our customer newsletter, she decided to give it a try, and it turned into something much bigger.

Starting in 2025, Maria quickly discovered she loved being around people and making a positive difference. Through her volunteering, she gained valuable experience handing calls, managing her time and supporting day-to-day activities – building both her skills and confidence along the way.

But it wasn’t just about the experience. Volunteering gave Maria something just as important: a real sense of belonging and connection within her community. 🩷

A few months after her volunteering ended, Maria was encouraged to apply for a Centre Assistant role at The Reed, and we’re delighted to say she was successful!

From café counter to Buckingham Palace! 🏰

At the beginning of May, Shirley, a volunteer from the Round About Café, swapped her usual shift in Mansbridge for a trip to Buckingham Palace, after being invited to the King’s first Garden Party of 2026.

Shirley’s years of commitment to showing up and creating a welcoming space for others led her to being recognised at such a special event, celebrating people across the country who are making a positive difference in their communities.

Shirley chose to share the day with Nigel, Café Supervisor, who joined her as her guest. For Nigel, it wasn’t just a memorable day out – it was a chance to see someone he works with recognised for the difference she makes locally. 🩷

Shirley and Nigel only caught a glimpse of the King in the distance, but the day still felt really special, a moment to pause and recognise the value of what people give.

Our new Services Strategy sets out the changes we’re making over the next five years to help deliver a better day-to-day experience for our customers.
