What does a day in the life of our crew really look like?

Last summer, Mike Apps from BBC Hampshire & Isle of Wight spent a shift with our team, seeing first-hand what goes on behind the scenes, from the morning briefing to responding to emergency calls.

It's and today we wish to thank anyone who donates their blood to help save lives, as well as our fantastic partners,
SERV Wessex - The Blood Runners for their dedicated support. πŸ’š

Their incredible service is made up of volunteers who replenish our car and aircraft blood supplies every 24 hours, meaning we are ready to deliver potentially life-saving blood transfusions at the scene of an incident.

An Isle of Wight by Dr Hania. πŸšπŸ’š

So far this year, we've responded to 61 emergencies on the Isle of Wight. Thanks to our recent airbase move, we're now able to reach patients on the Island faster than ever before when every second counts.

This wouldn't be possible without your support for our new airbase. Thank you for helping us be there when we're needed most.

From a former factory to purpose-built operating base – watch the transformation of our new home. 🚁

This incredible achievement was only possible because of your support. Operation Airbase has been the most ambitious fundraising appeal in our history, and we couldn't have done it without you. πŸŽ‰

A huge thank you to our friends at Rosewood Building Services for their extraordinary efforts after we handed them the keys in July 2025. They've created an operating base fit for your local Air Ambulance service, helping us respond to patients when they need us most. πŸ’šπŸ’›

It's June 2025 and Carmen and her husband, Barry, are holidaying on the Isle of Wight. Suddenly, Carmen starts to feel unwell. She's experiencing a sharp pain in her chest and asks Barry to take her to hospital. That's the last thing she remembers.

While Carmen slips in and out of consciousness, Barry follows his Satnav to St Mary's Hospital and pulls up outside the Emergency Department. Carmen is now completely unconscious and has stopped breathing. She is in cardiac arrest.

Carmen is critically unwell and there isn't enough time to wait for a ferry. Our crew are dispatched to her side. Read the rest of Carmen's story on our website and see how your support helps us be there when every second counts. https://www.hiowaa.org/carmens-story/

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the grand opening of our airbase last night. πŸ₯‚πŸŽ‰

It was an incredibly special evening and a truly significant moment for our charity. We were honoured to celebrate with so many people who have supported our Operation Airbase appeal.

It was a pleasure to welcome you into the new home of our life-saving service. πŸ’šπŸ’›
