Southam Air Cadets is the place for you! We are here to promote and encourage a practical interest in Aviation and the RAF Are you up for fun, adventure, incredible experiences and making new friends? Are you looking for something to give you the edge in life? Then welcome to the Air Cadet Organisation (ACO). Better known as the 'Air Cadets', we’re a UK-wide cadet force with more than 40,000 members aged between 12 and 20 years. We're sponsored by the Royal Air Force and can give you hands-on experience of activities and courses that will challenge and develop your skills to help you succeed in whatever you want to do. The Royal Air Force Air Cadets are the RAF's Cadet Force, divided into six regions, 34 wings and more than 900 squadrons within communities around the UK

Our aims are to:

Promote and encourage a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force among young people

Provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life

Encourage the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship

And there's one more important thing - it's a lot of fun! As a cadet you'll have the opportunity to do things that others only dream about. Want real flight experience? No problem. How about heading out on adventurous training and camps, sometimes overseas? Normal for cadets. Competitive sports, drill, shooting, music, STEM subjects. Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, cyber, first aid etc. Our list of activities is long, varied and open to all cadets. Yes it's a challenge, but that's what life's all about.

Monday the 14th September was down as a relaxing evening in Civvies but it was collectively decided by Cadets and Staff that everyone would focus on the upcoming Wing Field Day Competition. Those Cadets involved in the Drill Competition arrived at 6pm with the rest parading at the normal time. The teamwork and dedication to do well was evident all evening which is credit to the Cadets and Staff.

Well done to everyone!

Over the recent weekend, several Cadets including our Sgt King and Cadet McNab, attended Initial Weapons Training (IWT) on the Scorpion Air R***e with Cadet McNab achieving a Trained Shot during the shoot on the Sunday. Well done to both.

The photos are a selection of the day's training.

Cadets are taught weapon handling skills as part of a structured programme of supervised training that emphasises safe and responsible use.

Last night our Cadets worked extremely hard on their Drill and our Banner Team which is to their great credit. The remainder checked out our Radios and had an evening of STEM work. Unfortunately I got involved in Staff meetings so the activity photos are in short supply.

The Squadron will stand down for the coming week due to a perfect storm of Instructor absence on family holidays or involved with Camps and Courses.

On the 20th August 2011 Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging flying as Red 4 with the Red Arrows, crashed at the end of a display in Bournemouth. Jon was an Ex Cadet from 2028 Squadron and every year since his death, Cadets and Staff have held a short service of remembrance in front of his stone Memorial in the Squadron compound.

This year, the memorial was held on the exact date, Thursday the 20th August 2026. Cadets and Staff gathered in front of his Memorial Cairn as a single rose was placed, with due respect, one for each year since Jon died.

We will always remember Jon and as his Memorial Inscription says – “We will never forget one of our own.”

During our short service of remembrance, Corporal Bowers read the poem below written in memory of Jon -

A Prayer for Jon -

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there:
I do not sleep,
I may not now be in the group…….
But I am the diamond in the loop,
I am the white the red and blue,
Entwined within the corkscrew,
When you look to the heavens above,
I am the arrow through the heart of love,
I am the smoke across the sky,
I am the reason why we fly,
I am the Hawk’s engine roar,
I was proud to fly Red Four.

We will remember.
