RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat

RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat Established in 1967 in an old ticket office, Queensferry Lifeboat has grown into one of Scotland's busiest inshore lifeboat stations.
(1)

The current Queensferry RNLI Lifeboat Station opened in 2012 and is a world away from the original wooden construction lifeboat station which opened in 1967. In 1989 it was replaced by a specially built station on the same site, which has been home to four Lifeboats. This building is now home to HM Coastguard South Queensferry. Our current station was constructed further down the pier in order to

house a new Atlantic 85 lifeboat. B-851 “Jimmie Cairncross” was named by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. The current station, with an impressive boat house, enables the lifeboat to launch straight down the pier, thus saving vital minutes. The crew can now enjoy good locker space, shower facilities and a welcome dedicated area for the mechanic. Upstairs there is ample office space, kitchen area and a very impressive crew lounge and training/meeting area, featuring port hole windows and panoramic views up the Forth to Crombie and down to Inchcolm Island.

🛟 Can you help name our station mascot? 🤔

Our crew have had a little helper around the station recently! 👀

🎉 As part of our Open Day celebrations, we will be running a competition to name our station mascot, which was kindly knitted and donated by a supporter.

🌟 For a chance to win a matching knitted RNLI crew member, come down to Hawes Promenade on our Open Day (Sunday 14th June). For a donation, you can enter your suggestion for our mascots name!

The entries will be collated, and the crew will hold a vote on the winning entry.

Keep an eye out in our following posts to see if you can spot him hiding around the station, comment if you can spot him 👀

From all of us at RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat, we extend our heartfelt condolences to our fellow search and rescue colleagues at Marine Rescue NSW, following the tragic incident in Ballina, Australia.

The loss of their two volunteers is felt on a global scale and is a sobering reminder of the immense danger search and rescue volunteers face every day at sea. We recognise the profound impact tragedies like this have on families, crews and communities. Our thoughts are with them all.

We honour the courage, commitment and selflessness of those involved, and of everyone who dedicates their lives to saving lives at sea. They will not be forgotten. Fair winds and following seas 💙

Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.

Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.

“These two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.

“We ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,” Commissioner Andrews said.
