Good evening all,

I am aware of a recent post circulating on some local pages regarding a number of thefts from motor vehicles reported overnight in the South Molton area. At present, I am aware of one reported incident; however, it would appear that other victims may not yet have contacted the police.

I am also aware that the names of individuals believed to be responsible have been shared online. If you have any information relating to these offences, or information regarding those responsible, I would ask that you please contact us directly and provide any relevant details so that we can assess the information and take appropriate action where necessary.

I have also seen comments regarding the theft of pebbles from local flowerbeds. To reassure residents, we are as a local team aware of the reports and will look into any information that is provided. I will follow this up with South Molton in Bloom who do a fantastic job in keeping our town looking colourful throughout the year!!

As always, we would encourage anyone who has been affected by crime, or who has witnessed suspicious activity, to report it to us so that we can investigate and build the most accurate picture of what has occurred.

What has been happening in your area?

During the month of August 2026, officers in the South Molton area responded to 159 logs.

This number does not include the incidents where South Molton Officers have been needed to assist in neighbouring areas.

This number is up 6% from the same period in 2025, which equates to 9 more reports made.

These 159 logs include, but not limited to:

21 Concern for Welfare
17 Domestic related
4 Missing Persons
5 Reports of Violence
2 Animal/Wildlife Reports
2 Criminal Damage
8 ASB
38 Highway disruptions/Road Offences (Not including speeding or RTC)
9 RTC
4 Sudden Death

A large proportion of police incidents are not crime related. Of those which were, some investigations can be progressed through out of court disposals such as Community Resolution, Individuals being reported, or by voluntary interview.

As well as responding to the 159 logs, officers also worked on file building for court, taking witness and victim statements, foot, and vehicle patrols, booking in evidence, surveillance, executing warrants, attending court, attending training courses and inputting intelligence onto the system.

What a great couple of days, the engagement van was a hit and it shall be returning.
I have seen comments online requesting we reposition though and consider different times and dates so I will check the diary soon.

Over the last two days though we have:-

Submitted numerous Intel reports regarding all manner of issues across the sector Inc drugs, poaching, drink drive.

Signed up numerous individuals to Community Messenger (Google it... Its great) but message me if you need help

Marked several bikes with our free bike registration kits

And

Engaged with lots of smiley kids to offer advice and dispel any fears they may have of the Police.

Alongside this, we have issued a Community protection notice to an indivual regarding ASB matters.

Assisted NDDC in dealing with a seperate breach of CPN.

Issued a Community protection warning

Canvassed a large neighbourhood in the sector regarding ASB.

Arrested one male for being almost three times over the drink drive limit

And responded to many calls for service across the sector 🚔

And finally nooo we don't stalk McDonald's or other food outlets in the evening..... 🍔

Bank Holiday! | Have a safe TRIP

Follow the T.R.I.P. checks every driver needs to perform to keep themselves, their passengers and other road users safe.

TOP UP your fuel or battery, oil and screen wash
REST with planned stops of at least 15 minutes every two hours
INSPECT tyre pressure, tread depth and for cracks or tears before setting out
PREPARE for all weather conditions…it may be very hot, or we may have rain and thunderstorms

We’ll add that SPEED limits are there for your safety, they are not a target. Drive within the limit and to prevailing road, weather and traffic conditions. So, TRIPS: as easy to remember as TRIP.
