Yesterday we welcomed 6 lovely hens 🐔
•

They’ve settled in perfectly. Straight into a dust bath, then treat time followed by a little sunbathing ☀️
•

Super thrilled to have hen’s once more. We’re in the process of having a fabulous (and predator proof) coop built to keep them safe from Mr. Fox 🦊
•
•
For now they’ll be bunking-up with the doves 🕊️

With a traditional-ish hen house in mind we trawled the internet and seemed to be falling flat with what we wanted until we discovered this stunning coop and have to say we are absolutely thrilled with our new chicken house from Flyte So Fancy 🫶🏽

Today has been a lovely sunny Autumn day here in Somerton, Oxfordshire 🍂

A perfect day to give the girls a final visual check before the weather no doubt swiftly changes 🥶
•
•
These perspex crown boards from are excellent for quick visual checks as to not lose much needed heat from the colony within 🧡
•
•
All our colonies look to be in great shape heading into the winter season with plenty of stores and winter bee numbers ❄️
•
•
We have popped on some of fondant packs as a back up should they need it. These are packed with goodness and serve the bees incredibly well 🐝
•

Today we rescued a rooster 🐔
•
•
He was in a bit of a pickle - Seriously overgrown spurs, absolutely riddled with lice and STANK to high heaven 🤢
•
•
He’s had a bath, dry, nails and spurs trimmed, lice treatment, spritz - now onto worming treatment and a good feed 🧡
•
•
He’s missing a toe so we’ve decided to name him “Digit” 🐔
•
•
Digit will spend the night in his own little pen before being introduced to his to be wife, Bleu ♥️

A week or so ago we collected a swarm from a local village garden and got them settled into their fancy new

Just look at how quickly they are building up! We’re predicting great things from these ladies and this hive is EXTRA special…

This and colony have been dedicated to a dear friend fighting breast cancer 🩷
•
•
Breast Cancer Awareness month is October, so every October you will see a honey jar lid change from black to pink and every jar of honey sold will see the proceeds donated to 🩷
