On this day in 1868, Sir Josiah Mason founded the Sir Josiah Mason Trust (SJMT), which is now part of MY Trust.

This Founder’s Day, we’re celebrating a new chapter in almshouse tradition which continues his vital work for young people.

Our staff and in-house physiotherapist have worked incredibly hard to fulfil Derek's wish for a new chair, which he purchased himself.

For the first time since arriving at Yardley Grange Nursing Home, he was able to go outside, enjoy the fresh air, and take advantage of the warm weather.

It's wonderful to see Derek so happy and comfortably spending time outdoors in his new chair.

As Pride Month is drawing to a close, we’re proud to share that our CEO, David Healey, will be joining a panel discussion following a special performance of At the Rainbow’s End.

Taking place on Saturday 04 July at 3pm at the Hexagon Theatre, Midlands Arts Centre - MAC, this powerful script-in-hand performance by Artemis Theatre Company shines a light on the real-life experiences of older LGBTQ+ people navigating care in later life.

Based on verbatim interviews, the play explores the deeply concerning reality that some individuals - after living openly for decades - may feel forced to hide their identity again when accessing care.

This moving and thought-provoking performance (approx. 50 minutes) will be followed by a Q&A with the writer, audience, and expert panellists, including David, offering an important space for reflection, conversation, and change. As the UK’s older LGBTQ+ population continues to grow, raising awareness and improving understanding in care settings has never been more important.

Don't follow our new page, MY Trust yet? Then you'll have missed our exciting news that Shine won a Solihull Civic Honour!

Give MY Trust a follow to stay up to date with our news under our new brand of MY Trust, or Mason Yardley Trust.

We’re delighted to share that Shine won the Community Parenting Award at last night’s Solihull Civic Honours 2026!

So much of our work with young people is grounded in reflecting on the question: “What would a good parent do here?” That means consistency, honesty, a bit of challenge, a lot of fun and some sticking around, especially when things are tough.

This award really belongs to the young people we have worked with over the last 12 months.

In recognition of that, we were really pleased to take two of them along to the ceremony last night. They really enjoyed the evening and said it was something completely new for them and a reminder of why we focus so much on giving young people opportunities to step into new spaces, try out different roles, and experience things they might not otherwise have access to.

Thank you to our community partners who nominated us.

We're delighted that Shine has received this coveted recognition.

The winners will be crowned at an award ceremony on Tuesday 21 April. Please keep everything crossed for us!

We'll post on our new MY Trust page to let you know how we get on.

We’re proud to share that Shine has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Community Parenting Award at the Solihull Civic Awards 2026.

This recognition matters to us because relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We focus on offering the kind of consistent, dependable support a parent would provide. Showing up, listening, creating safety, and staying alongside young people through both progress and setbacks.

For many of the young people we work with, family networks haven’t always been available. So building trust, strengthening connections, and being a reliable presence isn’t just “part of the job”, it’s the foundation that helps young people shape their own path forward.

We’re grateful for the trust young people place in us, and we remain committed to staying alongside them.

Recently, Shine partnered with SmartLyte Communities CIC to provide brand-new Samsung Galaxy Tablets and 6 months of data to the young people who regularly attend our weekly Shine Connect social group in Yardley.

We also held a special event at Solihull College Blossomfield Campus, specifically supporting care leavers to receive their tablets and get set up confidently. Our Young People's Services Worker Helen attended the event to promote Shine to the students at the college.

A huge thank you to all our partners for pulling together once again to create another brilliant outcome for the young people we work with.
