On one of the hottest days of the year last night, and with everything being so dry, we would definitely advise against having a bonfire! 🔥

However, if you do plan on having one, please take a look at our safety advice alongside guidelines from Solihull council

Today is Firefighters’ Memorial Day and St Florian’s Day – the patron saint of firefighters.

Across West Midlands Fire Service, we’re remembering those who have been injured or lost their lives in the line of duty.

At 12noon, our fire stations will observe a one-minute silence. Flags will be lowered as a mark of respect.

Red watch have conducted their annual CPD water rescue training today at Llangollen.
As a specialist water rescue station, not only do we train for fires & RTC’s, obviously it’s important we keep on top of water rescue skills.
Not only do train with existing techniques, but new skills & drills are tested & developed in different water conditions.

🚒 A huge thank you to everyone that donated to our recent Christmas appeal 🚒

We were collecting on behalf of Helping Hands of Birmingham, who to do such an important job providing food, drinks, clothing and supplies to the homeless of Birmingham.

The founder of Helping Hands, Clare and the team very kindly looked after us and allowed us to join them for an evening, to see first hand the amazing work they do and exactly where your donations go.
Thank you to all involved❤️

Also many thanks to our awesome corporate comms team for filming and editing the video👏

🔥 Firehouse training today for Solihull Fire Station 🔥

🚒 Firefighter Fact! 🚒

Did you know firefighters don’t just rush into fires — they’re carefully looked after from the outside too?

When firefighters wear breathing apparatus, a yellow tag from their kit is placed on a control board outside the building.
This allows the Entry Control Operator to see: how much air is left💨 and how hard the crew are working 💪

Using a radio, they stay in touch with the firefighters and let them know when air is getting low and it’s time to come out safely.

Teamwork, technology and training — all working together to keep our firefighters safe 🔥💛

Amazing work for all involved 👏🏻

'Mika' the five-year-old Husky couldn't resist the temptation of a frozen lake in Northfield.

Fortunately, the dog's elderly owner heeded our advice of the past 24 hours and didn't attempt to enter the water. Instead, they called 999 and asked for the fire service.

Bournbrook fire station's Green Watch came to the rescue. Lucky Mika is pictured with firefighters Adam Law and Robert Walsh.

❄️Remember: if your dog ventures on to ice, NEVER follow them. You could quickly get into difficulty and turn one emergency into two.

🐕 Call 999 and ask for the fire service. Try to keep your pet in sight. Encourage them to move towards the edge.

❄️Please keep dogs on leads near frozen lakes, ponds, and rivers, especially during the cold spell.

More water safety advice we'd encourage you to read and share is available via the link in the comments.
