West Smethwick Park

West Smethwick Park Sandwell Council have been awarded a £4.5 million National Lottery grant to restore West Smethwick Park, paving the way for a massive £5.1 million face lift.

As well as restoring heritage features, like the James Chance memorial, and improving the sports pitches and gym equipment, the grant will be used to build a new community pavilion and provide exciting new events and activities in the park.

🌿Take some time to unwind, reset & breathe.

💚 Sound baths can support physical & mental wellbeing, help improve sleep as well as bringing a sense of clarity when life feels busy!

💚 We're standing shoulder to shoulder and walking for Men's Mental Health this June. Please join us at one of our six walks at parks across Sandwell.

🌳🚶 All walks are free to attend, open to all abilities, and welcome anyone who may benefit from fresh air, movement and informal peer support.

The hour-long walks will take place on:

🗓️ Friday 12 June 2026
📍 Victoria Park, Tipton - Meet at the War Memorial at 10.30am
📍 Brunswick Park, Wednesbury - Meet at the play area at 1.30pm

🗓️ Saturday 13 June 2026
📍 Dartmouth Park, West Bromwich - Meet at the War Memorial at 10.30am
📍 Britannia Park, Rowley Regis - Meet by the multi-games area near the car park at 1.30pm

🗓️ Sunday 14 June 2026
📍 Lightwoods Park, Smethwick - Meet at Lightwoods House at 10.30am
📍 West Smethwick Park, Smethwick - Meet at the Pavilion at 1pm, plus family-friendly activities from 2pm - 3.30pm

☀️ Enjoy the sunshine safely, Sandwell – no fires or BBQs in parks and open spaces ❌

With warmer weather here, more people are heading outdoors to enjoy our parks and green spaces.

But dry conditions can quickly turn a small spark into a serious wildfire, risking lives and endangering wildlife and natural habitats.

Our officers will be patrolling parks and open spaces over the weekend – anyone lighting a fire or BBQ on public land risks getting a £100 fine.

✅ Help protect Sandwell’s green spaces and wildlife:

- Never drop cigarette ends
- BBQs are not permitted in our parks and open spaces
- Take all litter home – especially glass
- Report any fires immediately – call 999

⚠️ And, finally, please don’t risk your or anyone else’s life by swimming in open water to cool off. Water in lakes, ponds, canals and rivers may feel warm on the surface, but just a few feet below can be icy cold, even in the hot weather, and can very quickly cause severe cramp and hypothermia.

🌿 Let’s all do our part to keep Sandwell safe this summer.
