We’re looking to bring Parkrun to West Smethwick Park 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

🌳 In order to get this happening we will need volunteers to support the weekly events!

‼️ A reminder from West Midlands Fire Service ‼️

🚒 Firefighters are facing huge pressures at the moment across the West Midlands.

❌ Let’s all do our part by not lighting fires or BBQ’s and keeping homes, gardens & green spaces safe.

🙏 Thanks to our incredible firefighters for everything they’re doing to protect our parks & communities.

✋ Given how hot and dry things are right now, please hold off on garden fires and BBQs.
Not to mention fire pits, chimeneas, braziers, incinerators. Anything that creates flames, heat or sparks.
It doesn't take much for embers to catch, on dry grass, leaves and the like.
And conditions like this make it far easier for a contained fire to become something much bigger, very quickly.
Honestly, if it can wait, let it.
Thanks to everyone who's helping us keep fire risk down🔥🙏

👀 Scarecrow Festival @ Barnford Park

🧑‍🌾The Supporters of Barnford Hill Park invite residents to their Scarecrow Festival taking place on Saturday 29 August 2026 🙌

🌻 Everyone is welcome to join in this FREE event & create a scarecrow using the materials provided on the day.

🌾All scarecrows will be displayed throughout the event, and a prize will be awarded to the entry judged to be the best. 🏆✨

🌞It's going to be another very hot week.

⚠️There have been several fires across Sandwell, and we can all do our bit by taking the advice of West Midlands Fire Service

🍖 don’t have barbecues in parks or open spaces.

🔥 don’t burn any kind of waste at home while conditions remain so dry - this includes general and garden waste.

🚬 dispose of ci******es carefully and take your litter home with you.

Please help keep everyone safe and reduce the pressure on our emergency services.

💚 Park Yoga Sandwell are back in the park again this morning from 9:30am 🙌

No need to book, just turn up- look 👀 for the Park Yoga flag!

🚗 If Yoga isn’t your thing the Friends of West Smethwick Park have their car boot sale starting at 10am!

📍The car boot sale is located behind the pavilion on the events area

☕️ Our cafe will be open serving breakfast baps, hot & cold drinks & a selection of snacks 🍕

🥳 What a fantastic week it’s been celebrating Love Parks Week! 🌿💚

☔️ A huge thank you to all the families who joined us yesterday in the rain at West Smethwick Park for our bird box painting & seed planting! We were delighted to welcome Cllr Bob Jones, Cabinet Member for Environment & Enforcement , who came along to support the event.

🌱 Today is our final day, and we’re wrapping up the celebrations with seed planting and family games at Sandwell Valley Visitor Centre.

💚 Come along and get involved we’d love to see you there!
