The Kingfisher in Slough was a legendary underground pub located beneath the Queensmere Shopping Centre on the High Street. It originally traded as The Peacock before changing its name to The Kingfisher.
Closed since 1994.
The entrance was historically located near the area outside the Empire Cinema.
While the pub is no longer open to the public, the underground space reportedly still exists.

The Herschel Sculpture in Slough is a prominent memorial dedicated to the world-renowned astronomer Sir William Herschel, who lived and worked in the town.
Designed by the Czech-born sculptor Franta Belsky, the piece is a symbolic representation of the triangular wooden structure of Herschel’s famous forty-foot telescope.
The sculpture was situated in Slough town centre on Herschel Street, close to the former site of Observatory House, where Herschel conducted his groundbreaking research. It now stands outside the Headquarters of Slough Borough Council.

Dementia Action Week
This Dementia Action Week, 18 - 24 May 2026, we will continue to raise awareness of dementia, the UK’s biggest killer, by sharing the stories behind the Forget Me Not.
Dementia Action Week is an awareness campaign led by Alzheimer’s Society, bringing people and organisations together to act on dementia.
Behind each Forget Me Not badge, there are stories of lives devastated by dementia and when we all wear the badge together, it becomes a movement of hope, action and unity.

A visible reminder that it will take a society to beat dementia.

Mental Health Awareness Week books for children.
Young children will not yet have developed the skill of articulating how they feel about something or managing emotions like anger, frustration, sadness or loss. Books can help them find ways to understand and express these feelings, as well as helping provide all-important reassurance.

Best of all, of course, the very act of reading or sharing a book together can provide a source of happiness and comfort.
