How’s your first summer with a food waste caddy been?

Based on your feedback, we’ve put together a few top tips for caddy housekeeping:
📆 Put your caddy out every week, no matter how little is in it
🛍️ Use a liner and tie it securely to keep your caddy clean and fresh; we encourage you to reuse existing bags
🚫 Keep the lids closed
💦 Give it a rinse with soapy water every now and then
😎 Keep caddies – indoor and outdoor – out of direct sunlight

Altogether, these should help keep things fresh, and you'll be doing your bit to recycle food waste, generating energy and creating fertiliser ✅

Good health and wellbeing is good not only for ourselves, but also for our communities, and there are countless individuals, groups and organisations contributing to this.

❤️‍🩹They’re helping to boost outcomes for the people of North Kesteven every day. So, who do you know that’s doing this voluntarily, out of the goodness of their own heart, through their own selfless endeavours, helping to make positive physical and psychological lifestyle changes at an individual or group level?

Maybe mobilising mental health support; bringing people together in therapy; facilitating walks, talks, weigh-ins or workshops; running food and welfare projects; relating supportive spaces; widening awareness; building on a personal experience to help others through their own journey: all of these are ways in which kind and encouraging people are contributing to improved health & wellbeing.

👏Applaud those who do this voluntarily by nominating them for an NK Community Champion Award by noon on September 14. It’s quick and easy at https://orlo.uk/QtPdi and requires little more than heartfelt appreciation for whatever they do to enrich the lives, communities and places of North Kesteven.

There are 11 award categories and maybe you can think of other people, groups or businesses who work voluntarily to improve life locally within North Kesteven through broad expression of community spirit, as a young achiever, good neighbour through longstanding commitment to a single initiative, as a community-focused business, or by contributing to climate action, art & culture, a better environment, or sport – people to thank for making North Kesteven such a nice place to live.

The Health & Wellbeing Award itself is looking for a new champion this year. To sponsor it, email [email protected] . Last year Men’s health champions Sleaford Walking Football Club, Prostate Cancer crusader Tony Scutt and Mark Bigger were each championed for the ways they change lives

🌱 Good news for gardeners! You can now recycle most colours of plastic plant pots, tubs and trays in your household recycling bin. Like other plastics, black plastic pots can't go in your recycling bin - they should go in your black bin instead.

Simply make sure pots you recycle are:
🪴 Empty
🪴 Clean
🪴 Loose (don't bag them)
🚫 Not black!

⚫ Unfortunately, the sorting technology used to process recycling cannot reliably detect black plastic, so these items can't be recycled through your kerbside collection.

By recycling the right items in the right bin, you're helping us produce high-quality recycling and keep the service running as efficiently as possible.
