🌟 That's a wrap on Volunteers' Week! 🌟

Over the past week we've been celebrating just a handful of the amazing people who give their time, skills, enthusiasm and energy to make Share Skipton possible.

Whether they're repairing broken items, welcoming visitors, maintaining our website, running the Library of Things, organising events, helping behind the scenes, or simply making the tea, every volunteer plays an important part in creating a stronger, kinder and more sustainable community.

A huge THANK YOU to all of our volunteers – past and present. Share Skipton simply wouldn't exist without you. 💚

If you've been inspired by our volunteer stories and would like to get involved, we'd love to hear from you! Find out more and apply via our website:
https://www.shareskipton.org/volunteer

Don't see a role that matches your skills or interests? Please get in touch anyway. We're always keen to hear from people who want to help, and we'll do our best to find a role that suits you.

Together, we're proving that sharing, repairing and reusing can make a real difference. 🌱

🌟 Volunteer Week Spotlight: Anna 🌟

Anna has been part of Share Skipton from the very beginning, before we even had a name!

Using her skills in website development and design, Anna helped turn an idea into the organisation we know today.

She first got involved after attending one of our early information sessions:

💚 "I thought a Library of Things was a great idea. I knew I had skills that would be helpful for getting it up and running."

One of Anna's proudest memories is helping launch the Share Skipton website:

💻 "There were a lot of late nights but it was great to see it finally live so we could start really showing people what we were doing."

What does Anna enjoy most about volunteering?

✨ "Everyone is so friendly and helpful, and so enthusiastic about what we do."

She says volunteering has given her:
💚 "A sense of pride and a sense of community."

And for anyone thinking of getting involved:

🙌 "Join us! You can give as much or as little time as you'd like around your existing commitments and it's a really nice way to be part of the community. The volunteer socials are fun, too!"

Anna's final reflection perfectly sums up what makes Share Skipton special:

🌱 "It's so incredible to see a group of strangers coming together and giving up their free time to make something like this possible. Everyone should be so proud!"

Thank you, Anna, for everything you've done to help Share Skipton grow.

🌟 Volunteer Week Spotlight: Susanne 🌟

Susanne volunteers at our Repair Café, often welcoming visitors on the exit desk and helping wherever needed.

Having recently moved to the area, Susanne joined Share Skipton because she wanted to get involved in her new community and had previously volunteered at another Repair Café.

When asked what she likes most about volunteering, her answer made us smile:

☕ "I get more cups of tea made for me than I do at home!"

More importantly, volunteering has given Susanne:
💚 "A sense of worth."

One of her favourite experiences has been being recognised by someone from another local group, while one of the biggest personal benefits has been:
✨ "I gained a sense of belonging in a new place."

For anyone considering volunteering, Susanne says:

🙌 "Go for it."

And her message about Share Skipton?

💚 "Share Skipton is a well led group."

Thank you, Susanne, for helping create such a welcoming atmosphere for everyone who visits.

🌟 Volunteer Week Spotlight: Chris 🌟

Chris is one of our talented repairers, helping people bring broken items back to life. He volunteers not only at the Repair Café, but also at our Library of Things!

He joined Share Skipton because: "I want to be part of something which helps a wide variety of people."

After six months with us, Chris says one of the best things about volunteering is the positive atmosphere and the sense of satisfaction that comes from helping others.

One memorable contribution? Sharing his pizza-making skills at our most recent volunteer social! 🍕😋

And when it comes to repairs, Chris loves the challenge: "Every time I open up a broken machine it's a voyage of discovery!"

His advice for anyone thinking about volunteering? "Do it!"

Chris says volunteering has made him feel: "A valued part of a well-run and successful organisation that helps to improve everybody's lives."

Thank you, Chris, for your curiosity, expertise and enthusiasm.

🌟 Volunteer Week Spotlight: Jenny 🌟

Meet Jenny, one of our wonderful Repair Café sewists!

Jenny joined Share Skipton around 6–8 months ago to share her skills and help people in the community. Since then, she's discovered just how amazing our local community really is.

When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering, Jenny said:
💚 "Self fulfilment, passing on skills, sense of community."

One of her favourite memories came when a small child was reunited with a much-loved teddy bear that Jenny had helped repair:

🧸 "His eyes shone with pleasure, and he then helped to press some buttons on my machine for the next fix."

For anyone considering volunteering, Jenny's advice is simple:

✨ "Do it! You won't regret it. Share in the fun and the sense of community - it's brilliant."

Thank you, Jenny, for helping us keep treasured items in use and bringing smiles to so many faces.

🌟 Volunteer Week Spotlight: Chris 🌟

This Volunteer Week, we're saying a huge thank you to Chris, one of our friendly Repair Café helpers, runners and greeters.

Chris has been volunteering for over a year, motivated by the Repair Café's mission of reducing waste, saving carbon and helping people make the most of the things they already own.

For Chris, one of the best parts of volunteering is welcoming people through the door. She enjoys meeting new faces, catching up with familiar ones, and seeing the positive impact repairs can have on both people's finances and the environment.

Volunteering has brought Chris a real sense of wellbeing and confidence. After retirement, it has provided a new way to use the people skills she developed throughout her career, helping visitors feel welcome and supported.

Some of her favourite memories include Jill's team talks and watching Alan work his magic on the famous barber's pole repair.

Her advice for anyone thinking about volunteering? "Do it."

Chris also wanted to recognise the people behind the scenes: "The team who run this are amazing."

Thank you, Chris, for being one of the friendly faces that helps make every Repair Café a welcoming and successful event. 💚
