Young people at Taibach Youth Club got hands‑on in the kitchen making their own pizza wraps, choosing from toppings like mushrooms, cheese, pepperoni, tomatoes, fresh basil, and even pineapple. Everyone built their own creation and the results were top‑tier. 🍕
After that, the group jumped into a fun World Cup quiz, testing their knowledge by guessing flags from around the globe — all to get ready for the start of the World Cup this week. ⚽

Residents and community representatives from the Upper Afan Valley can now apply to join the Pride in Place (PiPP) Neighbourhood Board, helping to shape the future of their communities.

Neath Port Talbot Council’s call for Board members follows the recent appointment of Karen Jones as Independent Chair, marking a key milestone in establishing the local leadership needed to deliver the programme.

The Pride in Place programme is a major UK Government initiative, bringing up to £20 million of investment to the Upper Afan Valley over the next decade. It aims to support regeneration, strengthen communities, and empower local people to play a central role in decision-making.

The Neighbourhood Board will be at the heart of this work, responsible for setting the vision for the area and agreeing how funding is invested. The Board will be resident-led, bringing together people who live or work in the area to ensure decisions are community-driven.

Karen Jones, Independent Chair of the Neighbourhood Board, said:

“This is an exciting opportunity for local people to get involved and help shape the future of the Upper Afan Valley. We want to hear from residents who are passionate about their communities and keen to make a difference.”

Board members will work alongside residents, community organisations, and public sector partners to:

• Develop a shared 10-year vision for the area
• Shape a four-year investment programme
• Oversee the delivery of local projects
• Ensure the programme delivers meaningful and lasting benefits

The board is particularly keen to hear from people who:

• Live or work in the Upper Afan Valley
• Reflect the diversity of the local community
• Bring local knowledge, lived experience, or community involvement

No previous board experience is required, and support will be provided to help members participate fully.

Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, Cllr. Stephen Hunt, said:

“The Pride in Place Programme is about putting local people at the centre of decision-making. This is a real opportunity for residents to have a direct say in how this significant investment benefits their communities.”

Aberafan Maesteg MP, Stephen Kinnock said:

“Pride in Place is a real opportunity for local people to shape the future of the Upper Afan Valley. We want to bring together residents, businesses, community leaders, and volunteers who care passionately about the area and want to help make a positive difference.

“If you care about the future of the Upper Afan Valley and want to play a role in shaping it, I would strongly encourage you to apply to join the Neighbourhood Board.”

Further information on the role and how to apply, please email [email protected]

The closing date for expressions of interest is Friday 26th June at 12pm.

This initiative is funded by the UK Government via the Pride in Place Programme.

Young people at Cimla Youth Club had a fabulous evening yesterday. The young people designed posters inspired by their safe places, and the creativity was incredible. They also enjoyed pancakes as a little treat. Thank you to everyone who came along! 🎨🥞

Starting this evening, Aberdulais Youth Club will be open to all pupils in year 6 regardless of age! 😄🎉

Normally our youth clubs are 11-18, but starting from today Aberdulais Youth Club will also be a place where all year 6 pupils can go to experience a youth club and get to take part in some fun activities before their transition to secondary school.

Aberdulais Youth Club is open from 18:00-20:00 on Friday evenings during school terms. We have lots of activities, friendly staff, and free food so come along and try it out!

Looking forward to seeing you there. ☺️

🌈 Happy PRIDE Month! 🌈

A big thank you to Ethan from Calan DVS for kicking off our PRIDE Month workshop with such an inspiring and engaging session. The workshop explored the importance of safe spaces for young people — places where they can feel accepted, valued, and free to be themselves.

PRIDE Month is not only about celebrating identity and inclusion, but also about recognising the vital link between feeling safe, being yourself, and positive mental health and wellbeing. When young people have supportive environments, it strengthens confidence, reduces isolation, and promotes healthier emotional wellbeing.

We’re proud to be part of creating spaces where every young person feels seen, heard, and supported. 💙

Young people from Taibach Youth Club enjoyed a lively game of Welsh bingo, with plenty of Welsh-themed prizes up for grabs. They also prepared hot snacks using donated ingredients from local supermarkets, helping to reduce food waste. The group loved coming up with creative cooking ideas.

Yesterday, we supported 6 amazing young carers on a trip to Dynamic Rock in Clydach.
Having the centre all to themselves, the group made the most of the session—building on skills they learned earlier this year and pushing themselves even further. Every young person reached the top of the climbing routes and showed fantastic determination and confidence
They even gave bouldering a go at the end, taking on a new challenge with great enthusiasm!
