Better known as the 'Air Cadets', We are a UK-wide cadet force with more than 40,000 members aged between 12 (yr8) and 20 years. We're sponsored by the Royal Air Force and can give you hands-on experience of activities and courses that will challenge and develop your skills to help you succeed in whatever you want to do. ✈️ A DAY OF AIR EXPERIENCE FLYING! ✈️

What better way to spend a day than taking to the skies! 🛩️

Six cadets from 1439 (Skelmersdale) Sqn RAF Air Cadets recently had the fantastic opportunity to visit RAF Woodvale, joining cadets from 1982 (Huyton) Sqn for a day of Air Experience Flying with 10 Air Experience Flight (10 AEF).

The day began with an important pre-flight safety briefing, giving the cadets an understanding of the aircraft, flight procedures and, most importantly, how to stay safe before heading out onto the airfield.

Then it was time to get airborne! ✈️

For five of our cadets, this was their very first flying experience, flying in the RAF's Grob Tutor T1 two-seat training aircraft.

But this wasn't simply a passenger flight…

Our cadets had the incredible opportunity to take control of the aircraft themselves, getting a real taste of what it's like to fly. For some, the experience went even further, with the added excitement of aerobatics! 😲✈️

It was a fantastic day of learning, challenge and adventure — and an experience that our cadets are unlikely to forget anytime soon.

A huge thank you to the team at 10 AEF for providing such an amazing opportunity and to CI Parry for looking after our cadets throughout the day.

Opportunities like this are one of the things that make being an Air Cadet so special. From the classroom to the cockpit, our cadets are given the chance to experience, learn, challenge themselves and discover where their interests might take them.

Well done to all our cadets who took part! 👏👏

Who knows… perhaps we've got some future RAF pilots in the making! 🚀✈️

✈️ 1439 Skelmersdale Cadets Take to the Skies! ☁️

Today, four of our cadets headed to 10 Air Experience Flight at RAF Woodvale for an unforgettable opportunity to experience powered flight and see the world from a whole new perspective.

For three of our cadets, the day was filled with incredible memories as they took to the skies alongside RAF pilots, gaining an experience that they will remember for years to come.

Unfortunately, the weather had other plans for our fourth cadet. Just as they were due to fly, the pilots received an updated weather report showing winds had increased beyond safe flying limits. As disappointing as it was, safety will always come first, and the flying programme was brought to a close.

A huge thank you to the team at 10 AEF for hosting our cadets and for giving them such a fantastic experience. We hope our final cadet will have another opportunity to take to the skies very soon.

Who knows... today's flight could be the first step towards a future career in aviation! ✈️💙

🏹 Fantastic Result at the FTD Archery Competition! 🏹

A huge congratulations to Cpl Dalton and Cdt King, who represented the squadron at the WCD Archery Competition. Their hard work, determination and teamwork paid off with an outstanding 2nd place finish! 🥈

Every cadet should be incredibly proud of their performance. They represented the squadron with professionalism, enthusiasm and great sportsmanship throughout the competition.

Well done to everyone who took part. You did yourselves and the squadron proud, and we can't wait to see what you achieve at the next competition!

Friday night marked a proud milestone for 1439 (Skelmersdale) Squadron as Sgt Edgar and Sgt Unwin were officially promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Promotion to Sergeant is earned through dedication, commitment, leadership and the ability to set the standard for others. Throughout their time as Corporals, both have demonstrated these qualities time and time again, making a positive impact on the squadron and supporting the development of their fellow cadets.

As they take on the responsibilities of Senior Non-Commissioned Officers, we have every confidence they will continue to lead by example, mentor our Junior NCOs and inspire the next generation of cadets.

Congratulations once again, Sgt Edgar and Sgt Unwin. Your hard work has paid off, and we look forward to seeing you both continue to grow in your new roles.

On Monday evening, we were delighted to welcome the OC Merseyside Wing RAFAC and the Wing Warrant Officer to 1439 (Skelmersdale) Squadron for our Annual Formal Inspection.

Throughout the evening, our visitors toured the squadron and saw first-hand the diverse range of activities available to our cadets.

They experienced VEX Robotics, our Flight Simulator, VR Drone Simulator, CasSim, Archery, and a fascinating Cryptography lesson, showcasing the variety of skills our cadets develop each week.

The cryptography lesson proved to be a particular highlight of the evening, capturing the Wing Warrant Officer's attention and sparking great discussions about the challenges and opportunities it offers our cadets.

We are incredibly proud of every cadet for their smart turnout, enthusiasm, and professionalism throughout the inspection. They represented the squadron exceptionally well and demonstrated the high standards we strive to achieve.

A huge thank you also goes to our dedicated staff and volunteers whose commitment makes opportunities like these possible.

Well done to everyone involved. It was a fantastic evening and a great opportunity to showcase what makes 1439 Squadron such a rewarding place to be.

Congratulations to Flight Sergeant Mikelsone and Corporal Lewis on successfully completing their Method of Instruction (MOI) Course!

Throughout the course, they developed their instructional techniques, learned how to confidently plan and deliver effective lessons, and enhanced their communication and leadership skills. These are invaluable qualities that will help them inspire and develop the next generation of cadets here at 1439 Squadron.

We look forward to seeing the knowledge and experience they've gained put into practice on the squadron. Well done to you both on this fantastic achievement. 👏

⛑️Casualty Simulation⛑️

On Monday, cadets from 1439 got involved in an action-packed first aid evening! 👏

During the first half of the night, our CWO and FS taught the cadets how to create realistic fake injuries using CASSIM equipment, which they then got the chance to replicate on each other!

In the second half, it was time to put those injuries to use in a casualty simulation exercise. The cadets worked together to assess and treat each casualty, gaining valuable hands-on first aid experience whilst giving each other feedback to help improve for next time.

A fantastic night of learning, teamwork, and first aid-well done everyone!🎉

So much happened this weekend for

Firstly, Merseyside Wing Air Cadets Wing Competition Day (greens), saw 12 cadets participate in Archery, First Aid and Leadership challenges...we look forward to seeing the results amd will report back! The training has already started for the Drill and Ceremonial Competition later in the year.

NORTH REGION ATHLETICS SUCCESS

North Region Athletics Achievements at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds.

💪 A Merseyside contingent of cadets and volunteer staff, had an excellent day, a great effort and some fantastic results.

WOW! What an incredible night at 1439 (Skelmersdale) Squadron!

We were honoured to welcome David Blackburn from EFT Group, Southport, who arrived with an unbelievable donation: 8 Android Tablets for our cadets.

This support will transform how we deliver training, complete exams, and help our young people push further than ever. It’s an investment directly into their development, confidence and future opportunities.
