Your waste is your responsibility, even after it leaves your home!

By law, householders have a duty of care to make sure their waste is disposed of properly. If it’s fly‑tipped and traced back to you, you could face a fine of up to £600 - even if someone else dumped it.

The good news? It’s easy to protect yourself!

Always check that anyone taking your waste away has a Waste Carriers Licence via the Environment Agency website, ask for a Waste Transfer Note (so you know where it’s going) and jot down their vehicle registration.

A quick check can save you stress, money and unwanted contact with enforcement officers.

Celebrate 25 Years of Maidstone River Park !

This July, we’re marking the park’s silver anniversary with a FREE concert on 18 July in Whatman Park.

A search is currently underway to locate individuals named on plaques at Whatman Park, as well as anyone whose handprints were recorded and featured in a display there 25 years ago.

We will be giving away 25 pairs of VIP tickets to those who have a handprint in the park or are named as a sponsor.

VIPs will enjoy:
- A glass of fizz
- Afternoon tea
- Preferential seating for the concert

To enter, email [email protected] your name, email address, and confirm if you’re a handprint holder or sponsor. We are not accepting DMs as a form of entry.

🚨Notice of road closure for Rectory Lane - 29th June 2026 🚨

SOUTH EAST WATER LIMITED - Temporary Road Closure - Rectory Lane, Barming - 29th June 2026 (Maidstone District)

Due to works planned to be undertaken by SOUTH EAST WATER LIMITED, it will be necessary to close part of Rectory Lane, Barming, from 29th June 2026 with estimated completion by 1st July 2026.

Rectory Lane, Barming, will be closed in the vicinity of land adjacent to property number 78. To the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Glebe Lane, Farleigh Lane, Rectory Lane and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce to allow new water service connection works to be carried out, works are undertaken by SOUTH EAST WATER LIMITED.

OPENREACH LIMITED - Temporary Road Closure - North Pole Road, Barming - 2nd July 2026 (Maidstone District)

Due to works planned to be undertaken by OPENREACH LIMITED, it will be necessary to close part of North Pole Road, Barming, from 2nd July 2026 with estimated completion by 3rd July 2026.

North Pole Road, Barming, will be closed approximately 75 metres West of property named Merrybrow. To the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via North Pole Road, North Street, A26 Tonbridge Road, The Street, Malling Road, Red Hill, Barming Road, North Pole Road, Teston Corner, North Pole Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce to allow telegraph pole replacement works to be carried out, works are undertaken by OPENREACH LIMITED.

🔵 Deaf Awareness Week 2026 🔵

This week is Deaf Awareness Week — but why do we have it?

Deaf Awareness Week has its roots in a global movement led by the World Federation of the Deaf, which works to promote the rights of Deaf people around the world.

It was created to highlight the barriers Deaf people can face every day, including:
👉 Communication challenges
👉 Difficulty accessing services
👉 Limited access to information

In the UK, this week helps to:
✔️ Raise awareness of Deaf people’s experiences
✔️ Promote the importance of British Sign Language (BSL)
✔️ Encourage more accessible and inclusive services

Despite progress, barriers still exist — and many Deaf people continue to experience challenges when accessing healthcare, information, and everyday services.

Deaf Awareness Week is about creating change.
Better communication. Better access. Equal opportunities.

At KCC Sensory Services, we are committed to supporting Deaf and deafblind people to live independently and access the services they need.

Let’s all play a part in making Kent more inclusive 💙

Free bike checks and minor repairs are coming to Maidstone 🚲

Bring your bike along for safety checks, minor repairs and friendly advice from an experienced mechanic.

Cycling UK’s Big Bike Revival in partnership with Kent County Council will be visiting with free FIX events on:
- Wednesday 6 May, 10.30am–2.30pm at Maidstone Hospital
- Thursday 11 June and Wednesday 8 July, 10.30am–2.30pm at Invicta House, County Hall

No booking needed, just turn up.
