Out on the doors speaking to residents on Kemsley Fields this morning, following a litter pick with my Sittingbourne North Action Team colleague Cllr Tony Winckless in the North Street area in Milton Regis.

Coming up on 20th September at Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light Railway

Let’s have a car show! Our friends at the Swale Vehicle Enthusiasts Club will be meeting at Kemsley Down to show off some of their vehicles.

Trains depart Sittingbourne Viaduct station at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm & 4pm and after the 15 minute trip, you’ll see the cars. Ask the owners about their vehicles and membership of SVEC.

There’s no additional cost - usual 2026 fares apply.

More “temporary” streetlight repairs I’ve been taking up with KCC recently.

Pleased that the first here, by Ridham Avenue into Reams Way has been fixed.

Chasing three on Sittingbourne High Street.

The Leader of KCC had a very public spat with Canterbury Council earlier this year over which style of heritage streetlight they would fund.

Of course I want Canterbury to have lights that are in keeping with the area, but why do we end up with this from KCC?

Regarding the recent issue raised by iCars about a complaint the taxi firm received regarding displaying poppies and Lest We Forget window stickers:

I am pleased that two of my colleagues - Cllr Dolley Wooster and Cllr Ashley Shiel - submitted an urgent council motion yesterday morning so that councillors can request the necessary policy amendment so that no future complaints like this one can be raised under the licensing arrangements in Swale.

I am also pleased the Chair of Licensing will be ensuring it is a priority item at the next Licensing Committee.

I’m aware of some more litter bin issues, and I’ve requested that contractors attend urgently to clear these.

They are on Menin Road, Ypres Drive and Hurst Lane.

I’ve also asked that the dog waste bin be refitted at the rec entrance from Grovehurst Avenue. I’m hoping to get this replaced by a larger, black litter bin which can then also be used by people using the bus stop or walking along Grovehurst Avenue.
