A temporary road closure has been put in place by Cumberland Council to allow Fibrus to carry out utility works which are expected to commence 15th June 2026 and anticipated to take 10 days to complete.

Location: U2029 Silloth - 23 June 2026 for approx. 5 days. From its junction with the B5302 to its junction with the B5301.

Alternative Route: via the B5301, B5300, Eden Street, Criffel Street, Petteril Street and B5302.

🔴 NEW REPORT: Why we need to talk about men’s health in Cumberland.

Cumberland Council has just released its Public Health Annual Report 2026, and it highlights some deeply concerning realities for the men in our communities.

Titled "Man up? Understanding men’s health and identity in Cumberland," the report reveals that men in our region face significantly poorer health outcomes than women—including higher rates of substance misuse, earlier death, and some of the highest su***de rates in England.

What needs to change?
The report shows that social pressures to "man up" and keep emotionally silent often stop men from asking for help until they reach a breaking point. To change this, the council is calling for:
👉 Earlier Support: Catching struggles early, especially in schools and among young men, before they become crises.
👉 Better Spaces: Expanding informal, face-to-face, and peer-to-peer support groups where men feel comfortable talking.
👉 Shifting the Culture: Breaking down the stigma around emotional expression and redefining what it means to be a man today.

As Colin Cox, Director of Public Health, puts it: "This challenges the idea that men’s poor health outcomes are simply about individual choices... We need to have more open conversations about the pressures and behaviours that can lead to harm."

The pop up service travels to local communities across Cumberland, providing access to a wide range of family and youth support services.

The team will be visiting Silloth Green, opposite Mrs Wilson's Coffee House - Every Thursday from 25 June till 9 July at 4pm to 7pm

⚠️ Dropped kerbs aren’t parking spaces. They are vital lifelines for wheelchair, mobility scooter, and pram users. Blocking a dropped kerb can block someone's independence.

Please keep them clear so everyone can cross safely.

The Annual Town Report for 2025/26 is now available to read on the Town Council's website. This report has been produced to highlight the activities of the Town Council over the last 12 months and will be put before the Annual Town Meeting to be held on Thursday 28th May 2026 at 7.00pm in Silloth Community Hall, Petteril Street, Silloth.

It provides an opportunity for residents to discuss the information provided and to question the Council on its activities during the year. Any resident of the town is welcome to attend this meeting.

With warmer weather on the way and the Lakes right on our doorstep, it’s the perfect time to get outdoors 🌿

If you’re heading out, please help keep everyone safe and protect our special places:

🚗 Park considerately – use designated bays and don’t block access, especially for farms and emergency routes
🚌 Plan ahead – busy spots fill up fast, so think about alternatives or take the bus: www.cumberland.gov.uk/bus-timetables
🌊 Be water aware – lakes and rivers may look inviting, but cold water shock is a real risk
🏕️ Camp responsibly – use official sites and take all litter home
🌍 Respect the area – leave it as you found it (or better!)
